The PlayStation Vita easily has the strongest launch line-up in history, but it’s not got every base covered. The lack of a real military shooter is one area where it fall shorts – but thankfully Zipper Interactive will be remedying that soon after release.

Unit 13 might not be registering on many people’s radar, but reception to the title thus far has been overwhelmingly positive. The game takes the traditional SOCOM experience, and shrinks it down into bitesized chunks.

In this new trailer, Zipper Interactive’s really honed in on the game’s unique features. Using the touch screen to toss grenades makes sense for example, but it’s the inclusion of 3G support that’s really getting our hype levels soaring. The game’s extremely leaderboard centric, and with 3G you’ll be able to compare scores with friends on-the-go, as well as pull down daily challenges and more.

This is what PS Vita is all about for us. It proves that there can be a balance between traditional console gaming and portable play. Unit 13 has all the elements of a big budget shooter, but it marries them perfectly with the accessibility of a smartphone game.

You’ll get to test out the title this week when a demo drops onto the PlayStation Store. Even better news: any progress you make in the demo will carry over to the full game once it's released.
