Street Fighter X Tekken fans aren’t happy. Shortly after the game’s release, hackers uncovered that much of the title’s DLC content was already included on the disc. That led to outrage, causing fans to ponder why they must pay extra to gain access to content that’s already finished.
There are legitimate reasons of course. Bad things happen if you attempt to play online with people that don’t have access to the same DLC content as you do, and so, from that stance it makes sense to store the goods on the disc. But even when presented with that theory, gamers aren't happy.
Capcom is trucking along with its plans regardless. The publisher's announced that on 3rd April its crossover brawler will get a new set of costumes available for $1 apiece or $13 for the full set. Those of you too angry to pay out will get access to a bunch of free colours for customisation and three new quick combo slots for each new fighter. That’s something, huh?
There’s more: after April Capcom will release a free tournament support update which will make it easier to select gems at the character select screen using a kind of “dial system”. Following that is a title update that will add "three new Assist Gem packs and six new Boost Gem packs, which add over 60 gems to the selection pool”. Each character will also get three more customisable gem sets, bringing the tally for each fighter up to five.
Finally, the additional 12 characters confirmed for the PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken will launch on consoles shortly after the portable title’s release. They’ll cost you, er, $20. Feel free to sound off in the comments.

Finding out that the extra characters were on the disc and I'd be charged for them later is the main reason I decided to pass on this game. If you want to work on new characters and add them later to stretch the life of the game, great. Sign me up. Holding content that I already technically own hostage to milk another $20 out of me is only going to assure you're not getting my $60 in the first place.
CAPCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!! You're going way to far with all these prices. So by the end of it all I would've spent 93 dollars total for this game?
I really hope people vote no with their wallets. Not a fan of pre-planned DLC. Honestly I don't want the thought of DLC to cross their minds until the game hits stores. The point is simply that it's disturbing that they plan these things during development and waste time thinking about which parts of the game they already made they should charge more for — when companies used to just try to make the best game they could. Now it looks like Capcom literally ask themselves "what's the least amount of content we can include for $60 before it looks way to suspicious?"
DLC is an unfortunate trend that is just not going anywhere. I do think there are some companies that do it right but sadly there's many more who do it all wrong. As much as I like the Street Fighter games, I just can't justify paying for the DLC, so I don't purchase it. What surprises me is Capcom actually did a decent job with the RE 5 DLC so I don't know why they can't do it with every other game they make. Another company that is infuriating me lately with this is Bioware, but they've taken it to the next level as we know there is an eventual DLC coming that will 'fix' the pitiful ending to that game. Stuff like this is why some are starting to get sick of the game industry. I understand these companies need to make money due to high production costs, but some of this is just nonsense.
I read somewhere that Capcom has bet the bank on Dragons Dogma, and that if it does not succeed it could cripple them. (even with the million sellers that they have already released this year.) I really hope that is not the case since Capcom holds a place in my heart as a gamer.
That said there DLC practices borderline desperate, and makes them look low rent. I will always take the time to check out what capcom is up to. Unfortunitly it seems like they are hell bent on selling you half the game up front (for the full price), and then have the balls to sell you the other half later, and that brings down my trust in Capcom... I hope that all the bad press they have received over the year spurs them on to do the right thing by the customers, but since this is the same company that milked mega man, and Street Fighter like a Guitar Hero game in the 90,s I doubt it happens.
So I guess in short STOP BENDING US OVER CAPCOM!
"There are legitimate reasons of course. Bad things happen if you attempt to play online with people that don’t have access to the same DLC content as you do, and so, from that stance it makes sense to store the goods on the disc."
Every time I read this explanation from Capcom, it just feels like they are insulting my intelligence. Why didn't they just leave the content on the disc, available, from the start and then everyone will be able to enjoy the content. But that's Capcom for you, the company that takes it's loyal fans for granted.
The problem is, those loyal fans keep buying their DLC. If they weren't then Capcom would be forced to change its business practice.
I hope we can buy the characters separately — getting my Dudley on might get this game back in my PS3.
Honestly though this on-disc DLC doesn't really bother me. Maybe I'm just too old to care.
The "Bad things happen if you attempt to play online with people that don’t have access to the same DLC content as you do" is an excuse, false, and completely invalid at that. Mortal Kombat (as well as others) already proved that by asking players to perform a mandatory update to continue to play online, which isn't strange or unreasonable at all for any game with an online mode, players can download DLC characters not on the disk which others can play against but can't use, and it all runs perfectly smoothly.
@SpaceKappa
Right on.
EA and Mass Effect 3 is the same crap. I don't give my money to companies who openly lie to their customers, when caught in their lie, lie again, and try to scam their customers by making them pay more when you didn't put in any extra effort or spend any extra money making the DLC. You removed something that was part of the rest of the game to sell it as "extra content"? And it's vital content at that? Screw that.
How is it vital? It's extra characters.
