It seems there’s no end to the bad news today. In addition to rumours surrounding the closure of Zipper Interactive and the unfortunate announcement of Yoshinori Ono’s ill health, PSFocus.nl is reporting that Bethesda is on the verge of cancelling anticipated sequel Prey 2.
The website cites a “reliable source” as the foundation for the rumour, which would go some way towards explaining why the game has had three public showings cancelled in the last couple of months. The report continues that an official announcement is expected from Bethesda next week.
In the meantime, the publisher has said that it does not “comment on rumours”.
Prey 2 got an extremely positive reaction from press upon its unveiling last year, making this story seem even more unfathomable. We guess we’ll find out the status of the project next week.

Well, the first game was in development for an absurdly long time and wasn't really a smash-hit when it finally DID release (though I quite liked it). I was surprised they announced a sequel in the first place (even though it was set up for one...but then, this sequel doesn't even follow up on the ending of the original). I would LIKE to see this game finished and released, but I don't think it'd bug me too bad if that wound up not happening after all.
