Whatever Soul Sacrifice is, it can’t come soon enough. With no new releases to speak of, the Vita continued its decline in Japan this week, selling a paltry 8,250 units.
To its credit, it wasn’t the only system to decline. Only the DSi LL managed to post an improved figure, beating its previous tally by a measly seven units. The 3DS, PS3 and PSP all suffered significant drops.
In the software charts, Namco Bandai’s 2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei Volume enjoyed a second week at the top, while fresh PSP titles from Idea Factory were the only new releases to chart.

Even though im not Sony's biggest fan I do hope they turn it around.
Vita is actually doing much better in EU and USA than in Japan, while overally its sales are rather poor everywhere. Hope it will get what the device deserves as it is the very best handled gaming platform to date.
No need for concern yet I don't think — let's see how things look in six months.
Sony has to act. I assume they are waiting for a specific game (Soul Sacrifice?) and will combine with a price drop. They have to do something.
The PS2 still selling... Well, it was pretty dang great.
Sony released the system at the wrong time and the sales numbers wont truly takeoff until the holiday season rolls around this Oct/Nov.
Does this surprise anyone? The launch title quality, while better than that of the 3DS, was still pretty paltry. Add to that the lack of consistent releases and minimal third-party support and you've got yourself a failing console.
Which is sad, because the Vita is the most capable handheld out right now. It deserves support.
@Slapshot In japan it was released before christmas
@Mandoble In your opinion.
@DavynD
For the North American and European audiences I thought the launch lineup was great, one of the better ones for any system in recent times. But yeah for Japan it was pretty bad. They need some Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and especially Monster Hunter, asap.
Those Super Robot Wars sales do us proud.
I love my vita, its the best handheld i've ever had, but sony need to promote the thing. I f you dont look at gaming web sites or read gaming media you will have no idea what vita is. Have you seen the ads at the cinema? they are terrible dont show any game play or features. come on sony let the masses know about VITA!
Well at least its doing better than the last sales report....it was sixth or seventh that time. {I think..}
@DavynD A post-launch drought is common for any new console. 3DS suffered the same thing. PS3 suffered the same thing. 360 suffered the same thing. I could go on!
I actually think the Vita's doing a better job of covering up the droughts actually. We just got Stardrone. Mortal Kombat's out in a couple of weeks. There's still Resistance and Gravity Rush to release. The post release support is fine.
