Bethesda announced yesterday that the promising looking Prey 2 had been delayed beyond its original 2012 release window due to development on the title not progressing at a “satisfactory” rate. Turns out the game hasn’t been worked on since November 2011, due to developer Human Head Studios trying to negotiate better contract terms with Bethesda owner Zenimax.
According to a source close to Shacknews, the developer actually laid off a chunk of its work force with the intention of rehiring them once the contract was improved. Apparently the game was in limbo until March, when things finally “soured”.
The publisher’s refusing to comment on the matter for now, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it took the project off Human Head and gave it to another studio to complete. It’s ultimately a sad state of affairs for a game that looked so promising last year.
