With Capcom remaining tight-lipped about the future of Monster Hunter on PlayStation Vita, it seems as though Sony itself is looking to fill the gigantic void.
Reliable Japanese retail blogger Sinobi has raised the curtain on an announcement event for an exclusive Vita title called Soul Sacrifice on 10th May.
Details are scarce right now, but the game is supposedly designed around the “concept of evolved co-op battles”. An illustration of the title in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine shows four characters fighting an enormous fantasy monster. Sound familiar?
It’s still not entirely clear whether the title is a first-party endeavour, but a website for the game currently redirects to PlayStation.com, making it seem extremely likely.
There’s no doubt that this is the type of game the Vita desperately needs right now, and if Soul Sacrifice can improve on Monster Hunter's established formula, then Sony might be onto a winner. All will be revealed on 10th May.

This could be a good move for Sony if true. Anything that can best Monster Hunter should take over Japan. Then again, I never really see what makes Monster Hunter so special anyway...?
@ShogunRok No, I've tried Monster Hunter on multiple occasions but I just don't "get" it either.
Obviously Sony won't have the big brand to back them, but you figure if they can trump the series in terms of visuals and gameplay, this has a good chance of building a fanbase. It'll need to be exceptionally good though.
The only Monster Hunter game I have played is Monster Hunter Tri and I loved every second of the 600 hours I played it. That said I have no interest in Vita so won't be playing this if true.
keeps refreshing Gamestop.com until the game is pre-orderable for the next several months
Way to be creative Sony.
i love monster hunter but im already bored of freedom unite. if this can deliver a comparable experience with in game chatting or messaging then its a winner. hopefully this comes out soon.
Call it what you want, I just want a MH or clone on my Vita... Ragnarock or w/e is the closest but it's not English...
@get2sammyb I didn't really get Monster Hunter either until I was about 10 hours in. Everything about the gameplay is meant to feel very rewarding when you do actually accomplish something, and the world just feels alive. In Tri at least, you're frequently getting access to new places and options that make things just a bit easier. There's a lot of thought and charm in nearly everything, from the weapons to the animations, the dialogue and the item descriptions. That's really something I can respect. I've never seen a clone have that much thought and care put into it, and I highly doubt one made by Sony would differ in that regard.
I could really go for some MH-style action on Vita.
@Chrono_Cross Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
This is most likely in the same group as demon souls. Demon souls was a ps3 game licensed by Sony. This is most likely a squeal or something. Which would be AMAZING! Dark souls and demon souls are so much fun and NOTHING LIKE MONSTER HUNTER.
