While positive noises have been made about the Vita's early sales in North America and Europe, there's been little hiding the fact that it's enduring a tough spell in Japan. It seems that gamers in Sony's homeland are happier to buy a PSP or, in even greater numbers, a 3DS. Despite this, it can't be said that Sony isn't trying.
Not long after launch Sony launched a special offer with a number of Japanese retailers, giving those who buy a 3G model and at least one game a rather nice ¥2,000 as cash back. Initially supposed to conclude at the end of March, retailers are reporting that the offer has been extended and that Sony is now throwing in a free 4GB memory card for those who are eligible.
We have little doubt that, long term, Vita will get a foothold in the Japanese market. Two words spring to mind that will turnaround the handheld's fortunes in its homeland — Monster Hunter.

I'm expecting a big E3 showing from Sony that could announce some system selling games.
I really hope the update this month fixes the ps1/psp/minis issues facing the Vita, and that E3 blows me away. I'd really love to see some more downloadable games for the Vita that grab my attention for a while the way Motorstorm RC did.
Anything free for the consumer is always nice but Sony needs to just take some of the money its put towards advertising, throw it in the laps of the higher ups at Capcom and beg them to put out a Monster Hunter game for the Vita asap.
