For a game that’s designed around multiplayer, Twisted Metal has some seriously problematic connectivity issues. But at least it was actually playable up until the weekend.
Indeed, players outside of the US are now complaining that the game won’t even load into the main menu unless you sign out of the PlayStation Network. While that temporary solution opens up access to offline play, it obviously leaves the multiplayer component greyed out.
The frequency of the complaints forced director David Jaffe to apologise on Twitter:
I am hearing this and sorry about it. I will know what is up on Monday. No clue why SCEE territories are locked out. I’m sorry.
While we’re sure the issue will be solved, we can’t shake the feeling that Twisted Metal’s post-release support has been shoddy. Much was made about the game’s sales potential ahead of its February release, but it actually did rather well at retail. As such it’s sad to see the title get pushed aside and forgotten – especially when the core experience was so exceptionally good.

Tell me about it. I get the network error issue a lot and Ive been unable tpo actually log on now since the 1.05 patch was released. Its a shame the network aspect of the title is as shoddy as it is due to it being such spectacular fun whenever it does decide to work. As a long time Twisted Metal fan I do feel a tad let down by Jaffe n co, who wouldn't? lol Ive borrowed my copy of the game to a friend (luckily he doesn't have the net) until the servers are working for us in europe again
