Yesterday's Vita firmware v1.65 was removed due to a mysterious "technical fault", but its big brother is back and ready to upgrade the stuffing out of your Vita.
Here's what's available in v1.66, out now:

- When searching for location data, users now have the option to 'Retry' and 'Cancel' when a failure occurs.
- A progress bar is introduced for application installation.
- A direct link to PlayStation Store is made available for new applications that users may discover on near.
- Users can now update data at any time within near, provided they are within the same location.
- The display time of notification alerts has been reduced from 5 seconds to 3 seconds.
- Functional improvements have been made in the following games and applications: Unit 13, Gravity Daze, near.

Updated a few hours ago and now netflix no longer works. Wow I love my vita but sheesh give us stuff we want not add garbage and make what we have not work. =(
As much as I hope that there is more updates coming soon (I read somewhere that more PSP "support-ability" was supposed to come in an update), I find it weird that they would push this update at this time when a "bigger" updated is expected this month. I don't mean to complain, but we were promised "more to be availible in the coming weeks" when we saw how limited the PSV compatible PSP titles was. And we are coming up on 2 months since launch with no updates in this area.
And as much as we are not supposed to (have a right to) complain that there is no PSONE support for Vita, it just seems wrong for the company to be so quiet about what they are doing about these features that we hoped would be with us by now. A friendly "we know what you want, here's the list of them and we are working on them, look for them to be availible in the month of BLANK" would go a LONG way in ensuring the customers that they are being taken care of. (Sigh)
@rh0gii: Of course it would...but Sony's FAR too large a corporation to do THAT. Those guys always thrive on leaving their fans in the dark.
I also definitely agree about the PSP compatability. Before the Vita released, Sony gave me the distinct impression that ALL PSP games available on PSN would work on it, and I'm more than a little annoyed that this turned out not to be true. Granted, there are many games that DO work but have to be copied over from a PC or PS3, but some simply don't, and that's bullcrap.
As for the update...any and all improvements to Near are EXTREMELY welcome in my book, especially being able to update multiple times within an hour (at least, I think that's what their wording meant). Figures that comes around after I finished trudging through to my Golden Abyss Plat.
