Shortly before the PlayStation Vita launched, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida stated that firmware updates on the handheld platform would be much less intrusive than on PS3. That's not quite been the case yet, as we queue up the system’s third update in less than 10 days.
To be fair, version 1.67 (available now) is an optional update. It promises to “improve stability for various PlayStation Vita titles”, and not much else. If you do decide to install it, make sure you set aside time to download a 97MB file.
What are you waiting for? Improved stability awaits.

The Nintendo 3DS's updates were always exciting to download. After much anticipation and patience, users were given access to free apps, the whole roster of DSiWare titles, and the ability to surf the internet. In my opinion, no system update should ever be optional! The Vita had to sacrifice a lot of possible abilities and compatibility in it's launch, that can be received from system updates, but from the looks of it, those abilities aren't going to be released into the fray for a long while =(
@LittleBigVita Stuff like that takes time — it'll come.
@LittleBigVita True, but the Vita has its equivalents of those functions from day 1 mostly. We didnt have to wait for an update to get a web browser. All the same its is still taking rather long for PS1 support. Im guess that will be annouced at E3 like they did in 2009 when they lauched FF 7 PS1 classic during the E3 Press Conference.
I guess it's because I've got a great connection, but I've never felt intruded by an update before. It'll take me a few minutes tops to download and install this update.
@3Above Hopefully we'll get some long awaited titles like: Einhänder, Tomba and Brave Fencer Musashi when we do!
How can you call a 97MB file not intrusive!
I just start the update when I plug my Vita in to charge before I go to bed.
This update didn't take very long for me to download and install. About ten minutes tops. I hope that Sony puts out an update that adds more PSP titles and adds PS1 compatibility to the Vita soon.
