Here’s an announcement we never expected to find in our inbox this afternoon: Bethesda is rereleasing DOOM 3 for PlayStation 3.
The expanded shooter – appropriately entitled the DOOM 3: BFG Edition – will include remastered versions of the original game, its expansion pack and seven new levels called “The Lost Mission”.
The rerelease will be fully optimised with 5.1 surround sound and 3D support. It’ll have improved rendering and lighting, as well as an overhauled checkpoint system. And yes, you’ll be able to use your flashlight while shooting a gun.
The BFG Edition will also ship with the original versions of DOOM and DOOM 2, making it something of a franchise celebration. And, of course, there’ll be a full set of trophies for you to collect.
id’s John Carmack said of the announcement:
DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release. Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.
New support for 3D TVs, monitors and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.
The game’s due out later this year. There's a trailer embedded in the space below.

Best news EVER!
looks great!
The best thing about this article? It basically led me to discover that the Sony HMZ-T1 is a thing.
Bethesda? Pass. I don't like their idea of "a silky smooth frame rate"!
One of the best announcements so far this year. Played all the Doom games to death but having them all remastered and bundled together into one package is music to my ears. The best bit? 3D support
No Move support?
Maybe a vita port is in the works also? wouldn't that just be the icing on the cake!
@symon12345 Considering these game's run on old hardware, I'd think it entirely possible to port them to Vita. That'd definitely be icing on the cake. Heck, then you could play it while on the toilet and it wouldn't be so bad when it literally scared the ......
Man... we can only hope that this happens, the last time I played Doom3 was for the original Xbox, I was about 15 at the time, and I got to a point where I couldn't progress as I was so terrified of the monsters that were lurking just around the corner from my save point, limited ammo, lights flashing, and the gargling monstrosities echoing in the distance... However nice it would be to have it for the vita, I don't think the atmosphere would quite match up to my needs as an avid horror enthusiast! be hella fun though!
yup doom on the vita would be awesome!
