Yesterday we reported that Sony was preparing to announce a partnership with a leading cloud gaming service at E3. One of the potential candidates for that team-up, Gaikai, has since followed up with a batch of press invites, teasing “major announcements” for next month’s show.
Apparently, the company's reveals have "the potential to change the future of video games, the game consoles and the way in which we play”. We're still not sure what Sony has up its sleeve here, but you can pretty much bank on Gaikai's announcements relating to PlayStation in some capacity. Strap yourselves in, folks — it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Hoping it's not true (or involves Microsoft instead)

I am against cloud gaming. All you need is network outage liek the BB fiasco last year and POW no internet meaning no game streaming. Im happy with disc based games and the occasional downloadable title thank you.
I don't think this is going to be anything like 'PS4 will be a cloud gaming console only'. I just think Sony are going to be implementing cloud based services into their consoles, which is a good thing because there are so many possibilities. I do hope it's something worthwhile though, as Sony could jump ahead of its rivals if they play their cards right.
I think this is a brilliant idea, and I'm looking forward to seeing the end results of it.
Some people on GAF are speculating that whatever this turns out to be, Sony might be able to let you demo PS4 games on a PS3. Forget backwards compatibility, how does future compatibility catch you?
An interesting theory.
