New Sleeping Dogs Trailer Shows Off Side Activities

The fine folks at United Front Games have clearly being paying close attention to SEGA's Yakuza franchise while developing the upcoming Sleeping Dogs. The open-world adventure boasts a vast variety of mini-games, including faithful favourites such as karaoke, street racing and, er, cockfighting.

This has got sleeper hit written all over it. It’s due out in August on PS3.

Sammy, in your professional opinion do you think Sleeping Dogs could be as good as Yakuza? I'm very interested by the game but I remain skeptical - we've all seen promising games like this end up crappy in the end. Should I be excited if I like Yakuza?

Said it before and will say it again. The more I see of this game the more I want it. it has so many elements in it.

@ShogunRok I'm not sure. It looks different to Yakuza in fairness — more like a blend between that franchise and Grand Theft Auto. Which totally appeals to me.

The thing I like about Yakuza is the pacing and delicate story arcs. I'm not sure that's going to be in this game. But damn if I'm not excited at the prospect of leaping between cars Pursuit Force style and betting on some cockfights.

I still can't believe Activision passed on this game. I suppose we could all play it and be disappointed, but judging from the trailers, this looks really good.
