Smart As was one of those PlayStation Vita titles that seemed to fall off the radar. Originally announced in a system demo reel alongside Gravity Rush and Little Deviants, we assumed that the title’s absence at launch meant it had been cancelled. But that’s not the case, as Sony has just confirmed the brain training application for release on its shiny new handheld this fall.
The game promises a “social brain-training experience that will put your brain to the test with 20 unique, engaging, tactile and highly interactive puzzle games”. Through PSN you’ll be able to share your stats with players from around the world using a robust set of social and connectivity features.
The title – which is being produced by Sony’s XDev division – takes advantage of all of the Vita’s input functions, including touch, camera and augmented reality. You’ll be able to participate in daily training activities that feature “fun arithmetic, logic, language and observation-based puzzles”. We’re sure there’s an oxymoron hidden somewhere in that quote.
Your performance in each of these mini games will help to calculate your overall brain power. This score can then be shared with your friends online. Pretty cleverly, you’ll also be able to compare scores against people you encounter in Near and your city.
Check out the game in action in the trailer below, and let us know what you think in the comments.

I really like all the social connectivity on offer here. Will probably be a nice title to have sitting on the system. Hopefully it's got a good price point.
ya we need more of these for vita
I was thinking more along the lines of, "Smart as a fifth-grader".
The vita shovel ware starts! who really wants crap like this?
I think this is a fine example of mistreating the Vita!
Over on the PS Blog one of the dev's replied to a comment saying that this is a 'full featured' title etc. And that pretty much it would be a full retail price game.
I agree with get2sammb, no harm it being there, like Frobisher Says, but, crucially- Frobisher's free . . .
This game really says a lot about what Sony is asking for from developers. They want to put the Vita up against DS and smartphone games- also evidenced by allowing Gameloft to shovel their over-priced, crappy wares on to the platform. targeting the casual market is a waste of time, it's not a smartphone, it's not going to live in peoples pockets.
It's a shame people view the Vita launch titles as they do. I think it was a great start, but just the start none the less. A big fps straight out of the gate would've gone a long way to cement the system in the market- and as much as I love the Resistance franchise- and will be buying Burning Skies on day one, Resistance isn't it. You need something widely familiar.
I'm no COD fan really, had COD4- and enjoyed it, but it's the only one I had. But it would be blinkered to think that a COD game wouldn't do the business. Even I played through the Gameloft COD 'em up Modern Combat 3 on my Xperia Play, it was impressive in places, and made for good portable gaming. Heck, I'd probably buy COD for the Vita just to see what it could do!
Big fps titles are essential to the system's future. Not this stuff, there's plenty of time for this stuff . . .
@Oddy Haha. Regional differences, my friend!
@KALofKRYPTON The big first-person shooters can come in addition to this, and we know they are. Resistance is nearly out, Killzone is in development. I'd be surprised if this game was priced more than Little Deviants or Reality Fighters, which are currently the cheapest Vita titles (certainly in the UK anyway).
@get2sammyb
True. Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoting the Vita, and I like the launch line up- but a big IP fps should have been a launch title.
I'd say Smart As will be around the £25 mark yeah.
Check out ShopTo.Net- some good discounted Vita game prices.
Resistance is cheapest on Amazon so far but not by much, £34.95 preorder.
battlefield is in the works
