Those of you offended by Mass Effect 3’s original conclusion will finally get closure next week, when the hotly anticipated Extended Cut DLC pack lands on the US PlayStation Store on 26th June. European players will have an additional week to prepare for the true ending, as the content will not arrive overseas until 4th July.
The expansion – which is roughly 2GB in size – will add clarity to the conclusion through a series of additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes. Unfortunately, you’ll need to play through the game’s intensely frustrating final mission again to unlock access to the added content. Urgh.
If you’d like to know more about the expansion pack, Mass Effect community manager Jessica Merizan sat down with executive producer Casey Hudson and leader writer Mac Walters to eke out some extra information. You can listen to the discussion below.

I'm not playing that final mission again. Nuh-uh.
Woohoo! Great news. Crap that we in the EU need to wait an extra week though...
I'll be playing the game from scratch again with my new Shepard. What was wrong with the final mission for you Sammy? It's a bit of a grind but it's not too bad. Is it?
@ShogunRok It was fine, but I'm not playing it again just to watch a couple of extra cut-scenes. Like you say, it was a grind.
@get2sammyb Yeah, fair enough. 1.9GB download suggests it's relatively big in size, but since there are apparently a load of different outcomes, one individual ending may not be very long.
After I've played it I'll let you know if it's worth grinding for
Can't wait! I'm close to beating it again anyways so I will just wait for this.
Just playing ME3 now. Assume as long as I download this before I get to the last mission I only have to do it once..? Not sure if I want to experience the original ending first just to see what everyone is talking about.
@Ginkgo Yeah — if you download and install it before you complete the game I imagine it will carry on straight into the DLC.
