Sony expects to sell 10 million PlayStation Vitas by March 2013, president Andrew House has revealed. Chatting with Reuters Japan, the executive explained that the firm anticipates the majority of handhelds to be sold during the holiday season, once more content has been released.

He said:

The end-of-year holiday season is extremely important for handheld game consoles. To that end, we’ve got showcase titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified and Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation coming out as well as our own first-party software.

We also want to strengthen the Vita’s online services, so we’ll be adding YouTube and Hulu apps. We want to build up those two pillars: games and online.

As of March 2012, the Vita had sold 1.8 million units, making Sony’s aim lofty but not unattainable. The handheld will have to hit its target without a price cut though, as that’s something Shuhei Yoshida ruled out in an interview earlier today.
