If you haven’t been keeping up with the tumultuous development of Final Fantasy XIV, then, well, we don’t blame you. But with the game on the verge of a re-release – and still allegedly planned for PlayStation 3 – it’s probably time you started to pay attention.
Alongside a new trailer – conveniently embedded below – Square Enix has announced that the updated version of its MMORPG will carry the subtitle “A Realm Reborn”. It’s a damn sight better than the previous extension, “Version 2.0”.
According to the publisher, the game has been “rebuilt from the ground up” and features “a new world to explore and storyline to experience”. So, basically it's Final Fantasy XV – unless you count Final Fantasy XIII-2 as Final Fantasy XV, in which case it would be... Oh, we give up!
A Realm Reborn is set to launch on PlayStation 3 next year, with a public beta repeatedly touted for Christmas time. We’ll eat our hat if it ever actually emerges.

bring it on! I've been waiting for the PS3 version for years now. If it's as fun as Final Fantasy XI, with the added bonus of letting people do a little solo work if they so desire, then I will be playing this on my PS3 a lot.
I hope it's as good as they claim, because if not I'll just go back to XI again. I LOOOOOVE Final Fantasy XI Online~
Hmmm....I'll wait for some reviews before possibly plunging into this. I'm usually not into MMORPGs, but I might make an exception for this.
Free to play or no buy. Wait, does that even make sense?
I hope the gameplay looks fun as this!
Last FF I've played was VII for PSOne.. sure looks different now xD
It occurred to me the other day that FF jumped the shark with FF XI. I don't know why it took me almost 10 years to realize that, or why it suddenly just did, but I don't see myself getting anything with FF in the title ever again. FF X-2 and FF:CC:TCB were 2 of the worst games I've ever played. OK, I would buy an HD FF7 remake just because. I miss Squaresoft.
Why would anyone consider FFXIII-2 as FFXV? It's a direct sequel in the same universe, just like so many games before it.
