We suppose Queasy Games founder Jonathan Mak should be a master at his own game. Still, nothing can prepare you for this video of the industry legend pulling together Deadmau5 and Beck samples to create a brand new beat in the upcoming PS3 and Vita exclusive Sound Shapes. His rapid use of the rear-touch panel is truly a sight to behold.
You’ll need to possess similar mastery of the DualShock 3 and touch-screen if you want to earn Sound Shapes’ Platinum Trophy. In order to keep the digital trinkets separate from the main campaign, the developer has created two new modes to house the shiny rewards.
“Death Mode is an unusual twist in our campaign mode,” explained Matthew Kumar on the PlayStation Blog. “Once you’ve beaten our albums, you can flip each album over to a b-side and experience intense, single-screen timed challenges to collect notes without dying based on signature moments from each of the album’s tracks. Each win unlocks a trophy, and we hope these will test the skills players have learned in our levels, making each trophy not merely hard-fought, but deeply rewarding.”
The game’s other additional option, Beat Mode, challenges you to “create beats on a single screen by listening and matching to a rhythm we have created”. The feature’s designed to inspire you to go into the editor and create your own patterns.
Sound Shapes is due out on 7th August in North America and 15th August in Europe. It’ll set you back $14.99/£9.99, with a 20% discount for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Remember, you’ll get the PS3 and Vita versions for a single price. Ooh, we can’t wait.

Oh my goodness, this game looks so good. The editor is genius — basically transforms a Cubase pattern screen into a two-dimensional platformer. Good grief. Seems like there's plenty of potential to personalise the sounds too.
I hope this is a big hit with lots of DLC.
Bleh this is one game I would get if I had a Vita. Looks amazing.
@zezhyrule Coming out on PS3 too.
So excited!
Oh. Well guess I don't have to buy a Vita then
I should probably read articles before I comment on them...
I imagine the controls would work better on the Vita though...
This looks so wicked!
Preordered!
