Nintendo won’t be the only platform holder rejoicing in second screen technology this Christmas. Indie developer DrinkBox Studios has confirmed that it will be taking full advantage of PlayStation 3 and Vita connectivity for its upcoming Metroidvania adventure, Guacamelee!.
"We're integrating the Vita as a PS3 controller for Guacamelee!, utilizing the Vita screen for a mini-map, and hopefully more," Chris McQuinn told Joystiq. "Does this sound like a next-gen console you've heard of perhaps? As far as we know, we're the first game doing this."
Actually, LittleBigPlanet 2 is the first game doing it – but we’re excited to see the technology spread to more titles. The functionality will be on display at PAX Prime in Seattle later this month. If you’re attending, you’ll be able to find the game inside the Indie Megabooth.

Hmm...could be cool. Of course, it's COMPLETELY impractical for those who have neither a PS3 nor a Vita as of yet...but if you already have one or the other, getting the remaining unit should be comparable to buying a Wii U...so long as you're okay with a failtastic lack of Nintendo IP's. Of course, being an übergeek, I ALREADY had a PS3 and Vita, and still intend to acquire a Wii U.
Cool. I was looking forward to buying this on my Vita. Can I still play it just on my Vita? Of course if I get the PS3 version free with my Vita purchase I'll have a lot of fun trying out this mode as well. This kind of stuff is good news for the Vita.
@Squiggle55 I think it's one of those "buy one, get both" titles!
That's great to hear! Games like this are all I need on my Vita. Of course stuff like Call of Duty and Monster Hunter are going to get the system into people's hands. But these are the games for me.
Kinda makes ya wonder what's in store for the PS4, doesn't it?
