Playing its cards right

NetherRealm Studios gaffer Ed Boon has promised to solve Mortal Kombat’s frustrating compatibility issues with upcoming brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us. The company’s previous effort did a poor job of ensuring all players had the appropriate data to make the online component work, but Boon has promised that its super hero mash-up will not succumb to the same problems.

“In Mortal Kombat we had downloadable characters,” Boon told Eurogamer.net. “We want to come up with a way to push all that information onto people’s machines so if I buy some character that was available for download, you would have it on your machine and I would be able to fight against you online.

“We’re coming up with a great automated system to make sure I can use my character against anybody and everything’s compatible.”

It doesn’t sound very interesting from afar, but we’re in favour of making the user experience more straight-forward. Of course, we daresay some people would rather this wasn’t an issue at all...
