Square Enix is set to reveal a new direction for the Lightning saga on 1st September, the publisher has announced. The so-called Lightning saga consists of two games already: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2. Together the titles have sold over 9.6 million units.
It’s not entirely clear what the Japanese publisher is going to announce, but we suppose Final Fantasy XIII-3 would make a lot of sense. Either way, the company’s released a new website counting down to the event. Does anyone care anymore?

Even though there's a lot of fan hate towards XIII and XIII-2 I really enjoyed the first game and have yet to play the second. However, IMHO, XIII-3 would be nice ONLY IF it really ends this so-called saga and closes this chapter of the series, allowing it to start fresh in the next generation. BTW, a complete edition of FF XIII-2, with all the DLC content would be very nice.
I loved FFXIII. Not so much the sequel.
Maybe this "new direction" of Lightning is that they kill her off. I mean I love her but how much can you milk one game in the series. Besides FFVII. That one is exempt.
YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY
NO ZEZ THEY CAN'T KILL HER!!
ily claire
XIII was average at best, and I'm currently playing FFXIII-2 for the first time. I'm enjoying it far more than the original.
That said, we don't need a third game in this series. Hell, no one asked for a sequel in the first place.
@shogunRokIf this is your first time playing FF13-2 then you probably know the outcome of the game.. but if you haven't then you will know why they need a sequel to a sequel.I was so close to throwing my controller at my TV after spending countless of hours playing this game only to get an unexpected ending. I have to agree FF13-2 is much better than the first one but I dont think it was necessary, but many people seems to like this game. Regardless of my opinion on FF13-3 I probably end up buying it because i want to finish the story... but if I get another one of those "unexpected ending" I might just fly to japan and beat the Crap out of the guy who wrote the story. LOL im just joking.
i need ff versus 13 and ff10 vita come on square enix listen to your fans,i bought almost every single game out there with a square enix logo...
See the "up-play" of "Lightning Saga"? And notice the downplay of Fabula Nova Crystallis? Square is dropping that pretentious title, making XIII its own thing with "Lightning Saga", giving Versus some room and distancing it from XIII. Final Fantasy Versus XIII may well yet reappear as Final Fantasy XV, as in "V" for Versus and "V" for ..uh...5...uh..like the 5 in 15..uh yeah, that's it!
please, just make ONE last Final Fantasy, and make it count. Honestly, Final Fantasy hasn't been good for me since 10 And honestly, how many more are they gonna release? final fantasy 25? final fantasy 35-2/365 days etc. etc. like god! JUST END THE SERIES! lol
Everyone knows SquareEnix to be thee rpg company, so just release awesome rpgs that feel like Final Fantasy. I'm willing to bet if they dropped Final Fantasy, made a game LIKE Final Fantasy but gave it a new name, people would actually be interested in it. My one friend use to play Final Fantasy ALWAYS, now he can't stand the series cause it's just never FINAL.
Having played the XIII-2 demo again, all the way through this time, I must confess this.
Would an action/rpg Final Fantasy that played like Call of Duty really be such a bad thing? I mean, towns yes, and places where it could open up and be non-linear, but then add that "non-lineararity" to the linear action set pieces in "dungeons" and combat situations in the overworld.
I want to enjoy FFXIII-2, haven't played XIII. But I've tried, and it's just a very uncomfortable game. You can see areas where there have been sparks of progress and inspiration, but it's not enough...they held back when they needed to push forward.
