Import specialist MonkeyPaw Games will be bringing a handful of its PSone Classics to North American Vitas tomorrow, the company has told Joystiq. The compatibility will coincide with the handheld’s hotly anticipated 1.80 update, which promises to augment PSone emulation alongside a slew of other improvements.
Supported classics will include Tomba!, Alundra, Vanguard Bandits and the two Arc the Lad titles.
It’s unclear how many more PSone Classics will be available on Vita tomorrow, but given the agonisingly slow roll-out of PSP titles, we'd advise you to keep your expectations low. At least that way there's a chance you might be pleasantly surprised.

I'm not understanding this. If Sony has all these PSone games on the PS3 and PSP stores, why can't they all be easily put on the Vita's shop at once rather than have them trickle out slowly?
Haha! Loving the sub-heading. Awesome news is is awesome
Does this article suggest that it is up to the publishers of the psone classics to make sure that they are compatible? Ridiculous. This to me sounds like the exact same issue with PSP games and minis. Sony is scared that there is a hacking exploit and the publisher has to go through every single game to make sure before Sony will flag it as transferrable. As opposed to just being reasonable and giving us all of the ps1 games at once and removing one if someone finds a hacking exploit, fixing it, and putting it back on the store.
@Firejonie I honestly wish I had an answer. It looks like they have to go through QA again, which, I agree, is absolutely ridiculous. Let's wait and see — it might be the case that everything is compatible tomorrow. I wouldn't bet on it, though.
What are you people complaining about? A new system is about NEW games. Backwards compatibility is a bonus. They're dishing out at least 100 PS1 games tomorrow. If that ain't enough games to wet your whistle, either A.) you never sleep, or B.) you've been cloned several times. Nobody twisted your arm and made you give up your PSP if it was loaded with old timers. And IF the slow delivery is due to preventing piracy, live with it. Have you ever dealt with piracy? Somebody jacked your car? Stole your paycheck before you got it? Didn't think so. Just enjoy the update tomorrow
The update just went live here in the US! I'm downloading it right now!
EDIT: Okay, I have been experimenting with the update and I have managed to get a few PS1 Classic games onto my PS Vita by transferring them from my PS3 system via the Content Manager. Out of the PS1 Classics games that I own I was only able to get Castlevania Chronicles, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Silent Hill. I tried downloading through my download history on my PS Vita but no dice. I'm hoping that more titles will be added when the PS Store updates tomorrow. I really want to purchase Alundra and Arc the Lad 2 right now but I'm going to wait until I am certain that I can get them onto my Vita. There is also some really cool features that you can access by touching and holding your finger on the screen. You can adjust the size of the screen, bilinear filtering, sound, controls, etc. I'm playing Symphony of the Night on full screen setting and it fits the Vita screen perfectly. Try it out!
