New blood

If you’re thinking about purchasing your first PlayStation 3 this Christmas, but are worried that the content’s going to dry up the moment the next-generation starts: stop. Chatting with GameSpot, hardware marketing manager John Koller has promised that the PS3 will continue to be supported through at least 2015.

"We're going to continue supporting the PS3 for the next few years," he revealed. "And we're going to continue supporting it not only that long, but as long as there is a development spigot that's running hot.”

He continued: “I can tell you right now, the development spigot for PS3 is very hot. There are a lot of great games coming. It’s the same thing as with the PS2 – it’s kind of stuck around as that old warrior, many years after its launch. But there are still games releasing for it."

Upcoming PS3 titles include The Last of Us and God of War: Ascension – but those are both pledged for early next year, so what about 2014 and beyond? “A lot of great content is coming," Koller teased. "Over the next 2-3 years, the PS3 has got an incredible line-up. That consumer coming in this fall is going to really have an opportunity to have great content and what we believe to be the best content in the industry. Yeah, we watch what the competitors do, but we don't make decisions based on what they do. We like our position."

Are there any readers planning on purchasing their first PS3 this year?
