Backbone's most memorable work

Port specialists Backbone Entertainment may be shut down, according to sources cited by IGN. The publication notes that the company is currently downsizing, with the hope that it will be able to continue to operate with a much “smaller” team. Of course, that won’t come as much comfort to the dozens of employees facing the chop.

The Californian studio is probably best known for its work on the quirky PSP title Death Jr., which released in 2005. Since then it’s produced a slew of ports and compilations, including the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection for PlayStation 3. It’s currently working on Midway Arcade Origins, a bundle featuring 30 of Midway’s most famous games. Publisher Warner Bros has yet to make a comment on the status of that project.
