If you were anticipating additional PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale character reveals in the weeks leading up to release, then it’s probably best to temper your expectations. Sid Shuman, of “farm fresh” PlayStation Blog fame, has stated on Twitter that the full launch line-up has been revealed. What’s interesting about his comments is that it insinuates there may be more characters released as DLC.
The current roster includes 20 fighters, spanning franchises such as Uncharted, God of War and even MediEvil. We quite like the line-up, but obviously we can see where there are holes – it would have been nice to have Crash Bandicoot and Cloud in there, for example.
Either way, the game’s shaping up nicely. We played an updated build over the weekend, and the presentation has definitely improved since the beta. Now we’re just eager for SuperBot Entertainment to pack the title with nostalgia and Easter eggs. You shouldn’t be able to play this game without something making you smile.

Yeah,Fat Princess instead of Kat or guy from Shadow of the Colossus. F**k you very much, Sony. Yeah, and two copies of InFamous protagonist. What the hell are they thinking about??? I'm not gonna buy this game even if they will make DLC with Kat. F**k you Sony and f**k your Super Smash Bros. clone with 20 lame characters =))))... Stup*d Sony.
@Gemuarto Oh come on. I'd like Kat to be in there too, but she's a relatively new character so it makes sense that she's not in it. Besides, Fat Princess is a brilliant character.
I agree that two versions of Cole is a bit of a wasted slot, but there's still plenty of cool characters in the game. How many characters did the first Super Smash Bros. launch with?
They should have a character for Gran Turismo. The ludicrously dressed Captain Eagle with his signature Eagle Punch!
@get2sammyb for those who dont know the answer it was 12.......still a kick butt game tho
Wasn't there supposed to be an rpg character? I wonder who they consider that to be...
Revealed where?
I think this is misinformation. Paul Gale - who has some sort of inside source from SuperBot (and has never been wrong about the game) said there were 22+ characters. He now says that if SuperBot don't clarify, he'll reveal all he knows. The age of blackmailing developers is here.
I also think the Super Smash Bros. argument is flawed. Not only is the game ages old, but Nintendo simply didn't have as many characters to choose from back then - they just slapped their main guys in there and increased it over time. Anyway, for me we have a fairly balanced roster, but 20 characters feels like far too little for how huge Sony's catalogue is.
If this is true, I may wait for a special version with DLC.
Dart
Wander
Ico
Kat
Lilika Rhyza
Ellen
Infected Nathan Hale
Emmett Graves
ND Crash
IG Spyro
If only these were in as well.
@get2sammyb I just want more characters from Japan, I really can't care less about Sony's western characters. They are nothing to me, just tools to get more money from happy customers =))))).. They are so flat and forgetable and exchangeable(IMHO).. Why there is no one from Final Fantasy? Is Final Fantasy less important for Sony than Fat Princess? The roster is really one-sided. And only two female characters? And one of them is fat? =))))))))) OMG =(((....
@Gemuarto Haha! To an extent I can see where you're coming from — but I doubt anyone at Sony said, "Fat Princess is more important than Final Fantasy." The problem is, Square Enix owns Final Fantasy, and if they don't want to put Cloud or even Lightning in the game — then there's absolutely nothing Sony can do about it. The same applies to Lara Croft, Crash, Spyro, etc.
Cloud or Lightning? I'm pretty sure people would prefer Sephiroth, unless we are taking for granted he's the final (fantasy) boss?
I am honestly a little shocked that Crash Bandicoot never found his way into the game, in spite of several games. I would have liked to see a FF Character as well, but as it stands I think 20 characters is a decent amount, even if there is a stupid clone amongst them,
I can easily see them making map or character/skin DLC.
At this point I might wait to grab it until it goes on a sale. I'd have to see how meaty the online community will be.
20 characters? Seriously? I know the first Smash Bros. had a 12 character roster but that game came out in 1999!
This wouldn't be so disappointing if many of the characters weren't poor editions. I mean they put in Evil Cole, the lame new Dante know one likes, Fat Princess of all people, that Cat thing, and Big Daddy, who's cool, but isn't as important as say Snake, Spyro, Crash, or any Final Fantasy character.
I understand everyone's concern but there very well may be more charaters in the game. We dont know who or what the final boss is and like most games he/she could be an unlockable character after you beat them. Personally i would preffer 30 - 35 charaters but im not going to boycot the game becasue i didnt get that. I think it will be really enjoyable and my friends and i will have loads of fun playing it. Thats all i expect from a video game.
I suspect Crash and Spyro didn't make it in because Activision didn't want to play nice. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were DLC plans, though...that's the era we live in now, eh?
You can say the game is looking better since the beta, but I've have to play it to believe it. From my beta experience, I'm still definitely against this game.
@Stuffgamer1 Personally, I really like it. What's getting you down?
I don't think theres much of a point complaining about one clone out of 20 characters when Smash Bros. has had far more, as long as they play differently it should be fine. Besides its a lose-lose situation since people would either complain they put both in or left one out. Also one thing to consider about the first Smash Bros. is the limited space on the cart, which is tiny even compared to vita game cards.
Wouldn't be surprise to see dlc characters, especially ones like Spyro or Cloud cause you know those would sell. I have no problems with dlc but I hope they don't make you pay for it twice being a cross-buy game and all.
