Humiliation doesn't cost a thing

The next PlayStation 3 firmware update will not only allow you to view your PlayStation Vita Trophies on the console, but it will also integrate SingStar at a system level. Sony’s immensely popular karaoke franchise will be integrated into the XMB, allowing you to boot up the title without ever needing a disc.

Furthermore, the free-to-play application will now allow you to use the PlayStation Eye as an input device. Obviously, it's never going to better the accuracy of a dedicated microphone – but for drunken post-pub chants of Wonderwall, it should prove solid enough. The Lady GaGa wannabes amongst you will still be able to use a peripheral if you prefer.

If you’ve never spent a penny on the SingStore, then you’re going to have to build up a library of your own. Thankfully, a selection of short demo songs will be available to make sure you enjoy the experience first. For long time fans of the franchise, your classic Blu-rays will still be compatible too.

According to senior producer Chris Bruce, the move is designed to broaden the horizons of the casual franchise. "It's really just the next step to broaden the audience and to get it out to everyone and get everyone singing again," he told Eurogamer.net.
