Crackdown developer Ruffian Games was working on a modern reimagining of classic arcade brawler Streets of Rage – and it looked awesome. A leaked video of the cancelled title was uploaded to Vimeo earlier this month, showcasing 90 seconds of rain-slicked footage. The project was supposedly intended for digital platforms such as the PlayStation Network.
Former employee Sean Noonan has since confirmed the defunct download’s authenticity on Twitter. “So it seems like one of my previous projects has leaked, as pretty as I remember,” he said. The developer is now working as a level designer at Ubisoft Montreal.
You can check out the video in the space below. We’re particularly fond of the scene focusing on the arcade. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
Update: Ruffian Games' business and management chief Gary Liddon has uploaded a version of the prototype with sound. We've swapped that in.

I would have purchased and played this game. It looks great.
Not SoR for me.
Looks like a sequel to The Bouncer- and quite graphic.
Give Streets OF Rage Remake a go. Much better.
@KALofKRYPTON There are random pipes and big neon "go" signs — looks Streets of Rage enough to me. I think this would have been divisive if it did get released, though.
@get2sammyb
I agree on the divisive point.
The opening to the level looked great- plenty of nice touches, but the gamplay looked worse than Ken's Rage.
For my money, it would have to be a much more sympathetic remake- like Streets Of Rage Remake- or the 2D levels of Sonic Generations.
Bugger. Me. I want it!
looks good , but why would you want to play this over the original ?
I sooo would have got this.
