We all know that the PlayStation 4 is almost certainly on its way – it’s just a matter of when at this stage. Well, chatting with Chilean news website El Mercurio Online (great name, by the way), Sony’s vice president of home entertainment Hiroshi Sakamoto has hinted that a reveal could come as soon as May. That’s in less than five months, folks. Oh boy...
“Our friends at Sony PlayStation are getting prepared," he told the website. "For now, I can only say that we’re focused on the gaming event E3, set for this June. The announcement may be then, or possibly earlier in May.”
Sakamoto doesn’t work for Sony Computer Entertainment, so his comments should be taken with a pinch of salt. However, we imagine that his role in the home entertainment department would give him access to some of PlayStation's plans.
The good news is that if the platform holder is preparing for a pre-E3 reveal, then there’s a big chance that we’ll learn more about it soon. Are you excited? Let us know in the comments section below.

More proof that the gaming industry is starting to care less about E3. But it also makes sense to do it earlier if there is going to be less than 6 months of hype for the system.
@XCWarrior E3 is so noisy, that I think it makes sense for them to effectively "dominate" the headlines before hand. This is something that Sony's been doing for a while.
I just love announcements for announcements. Oh, and countdowns for announcements are good too. And release dates and pre-ordering for games that will possibly never ship - Last Guardian.
@rjejr The Last Guardian will be a PS4 launch title! Count on it!
any news on the PS5 ? (sharply ironical taunt)
IF PS4 launches with killzone 5 it will be a instant buy no matter the cost/
instant purchase once final fantasy series hits
FF Versus XIII and The Last Guardian? Ill be standing in line to preoder!
I'd love to know if I need to spend $20k on a 4k tv in order to get a native res. We all know we'd like to : )
@charlesnarles
It's a fair bet that 4k will NOT be native resolution for games. Movies and such, yes, but a catalogue full of 1080p games would suffice.
I'm personally happy with my ps3, I could careless for a ps4 announcement right now
I'm just not interested at all in a PS4 or Xbox720.
I have all the consoles now, but I'm just not sure I'm going to be getting another any time soon... maybe couple years down the road. I don't know though. I can't imagine what they could do better. I don't really care about graphics. Maybe if Move/Kinect is more immersive... that would give me a reason to buy. But a new console for just shiny new graphics? No.
@Sanquine Killzone 5? what happened to Killzone 4?
@FuzzyYellowBalls
I largely agree with you. It would really take something phenomenal at this point for me to buy a new console. Possibly Unreal Tournament 4.
