Divekick

Divekick is inspired by those tense fighting game encounters where you’re too nervous to make a move. With one hit leading to an instant knock-out, the PlayStation 3 and Vita title sees you using two buttons to, well, dive and kick your opponent. It sounds basic, but the high tension gameplay promises an addictive experience.

“The game is purely about outsmarting someone and enforcing your will upon them,” explained creator Adam Heart on the PlayStation Blog. “This skill is core to the fighting genre, but because we’ve peeled away the execution and memorisation barriers that bog down other fighting titles, a huge number of players in the office have become very skilled and very threatening.”

While the gameplay premise is undeniably simple, the developer has worked hard to incorporate some more advanced mechanics. For example, building up your Kick Meter will allow you to move faster, but if you’re hit with a headshot you’ll find yourself concussed and your gauge will be reset.

The game’s being developed by Chicago outfit Iron Galaxy, who’s probably best known for its work on Wreckateer for the Xbox 360. Additional details are expected soon, including the game’s full character roster and modes. A little birdie tells us that it will feature GGPO-powered online multiplayer and a full single-player campaign.
