We already know that the PlayStation Vita’s commercial performance has improved dramatically since the console’s recent price drop, but just how much has remained a bit of a mystery. Fortunately, speaking at a One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 presentation earlier today, SCEJ president Hiroshi Kawano has shined a little light on the matter, hinting that sales have quadrupled since the 28th February adjustment.
According to a report on Game Jouhou [via Gematsu], the executive teased that the resurging system has sold about four times the amount of units that it registered two weeks ago. Back then, the console sold about 11,000 units, so it’s not unreasonable to expect this week’s number to be in the region of 44,000 units. That would represent a marked improvement, and with Soul Sacrifice still to come, it could get even better.
We’ll need to wait until later in the week for the official figures, but things are certainly looking up at the moment. Let’s just hope that they stay that way.

That's not bad! Hope the trend continues. More sales does = more games after all.
I knew this would happen, it's similar to what I'm happened with the PS3(bad first year, then dramatic improvement). If this continues, we will no doubt start seeing more 3rd party titles on the Vita.
Hopefully the rest of the world will follow suit. Maybe then I can get a Vita if we can get a steady flow of games and a price drop.
Lower price results in more sales? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!?
Seriously, Sony...price drops elsewhere now.
hmm i thought it would be more than 40k...well wrong guess
@Stuffgamer1 I most certainly agree! I hope for sony's sake they better shape up!
Yeaaaah. I wanna actually see another human using one still, tho
Haha, @Charles. Come to think of it, I've never seen anyone else with one either.
@charlesnarles I've seen at least 13 people with a Vita, and that was just in the last 2 days.
I've seen people with Vita in the cars.
If they can stay close to those numbers from now on, they've got a great success.
It's not just price drop, but also Senran Kagura and free-to-play PSO2, I guess. Senran Kagura sold 120 000 in 4 days. Better than previous game on 3DS. I'm not pervert, but hope Senran Kagura will see US shores sooner or later...
I've seen two other people with their Vita's...my brother and a former coworker. Definitely do see 3DS's a LOT more often.
These numbers are nice, but I think its a little too late. I wont buy a Vita unless it has Patapon!
i think they would sell more if they lowered the price of the memory cards a bit
@ThatOneBlackGuy well, that's welcome news. Maybe soon devs will get enough money to expand the library closer to the size it should have always been!
@Gemuarto You're right: the timing of the drop has been perfect for Japan. Soul Sacrifice and Tales are still on the horizon, too. It's definitely going to have a good month. It all depends on if it can sustain that into June and July, though, really.
@ThatOneBlackGuy me and my bestfriend both got one, and I used near to find all tha people around me (I live ina small town, lol) wit one. so we prolly got like 15 people wit vitaz in my michigan town
@grimbldoo I think patapoon is comin to vita today in celebration of its birthday. I kno a buncha stuff is comin, for free this month to vita. better get plus if u don't already got it
I think I saw somebody use a Vita once. Though it might have been a PSP, it was awhile ago. I was about to say I see a lot of 3DSs being used but I usually can't tell the difference between those and the DS from the back or far away, but the dual screens are everywhere. I still see more kids and people using phones though. I rarely see tablets.
See SONY? Wasn't so bad, was it? Now if you could just price cut the Vita outside of Japan, you'll save yourselves from dropping out of the hardware buisiness!
I think the price of hardware is fine compared to the feature set & power of the 3DS. It's just the cost of memory cards that I dislike. I have a huge psn back catalog of games I have been saving from the PSP that I can't play properly due to my PSP's busted dpad/analog nub.
Dances in long awaited success
But seriously. Anyone who doesn't have a Vita is missing out BIG TIME.
Even I, at first, was edgy about getting one. But I eventually got my 3G Vita, and I love playing LittleBigPlanet Vita at school online. It's the shit. Anyone who enjoys good indie games, and PS3 quality on the go, GET A VITA. It's so worth it. I also got my 32GB card for only 75 bucks on Amazon. Not to bad, since LBP PSVITA is only 1GB.. Also, Tearaway.
