See that red text at the bottom of those PlayStation Vita promotional posters? That's the sign of victory. After having its price slashed to just ¥19,980 yesterday, Sony’s struggling handheld has finally started flying off the shelves, with the above Akihabara retailer only having two models left in stock.
The image won’t mean much until we get official sales data next week – we don’t know how much stock the retailer had in the first place, after all – but it at least shows that the handheld is finally starting to move units in its home region. Let’s hope that the price cut prompts a mini resurgence for the system over the coming months.

Back then they didn't want me, now I got a price cut they all on me.
Nice to see. Now if SONY could just price cut it beyond Japan instead of letting it blossom in Japan while watching it die out of Japan.
Nobody in Japan wants 3G version =))))
Great news:D If this is an example for sony they should lower the price in europe and US as well.
@ non vita owners: Only persona 4 the golden justify your purchase of a vita
@Sanquine
They should lower the price when a game that can actually move hardware is being released. I'm thinking Soul Sacrifice, Killzone or Tearaway.
@naruball Exactly. They're dropped the price now in Japan because they have a killer line-up on the horizon.
now if only god eater 2 has a release date...that would help move a few vita too...
@naruball Yeah, that sounds alot better... But i mean i think a lot of people i know are on the line of buying it
Hoping for a price drop over here eventually (even though they said they have no plans of that yet), and I ESPECIALLY want a price drop for those ridiculously overpriced memory cards.
For now, I think I'll pick up Soul Sacrifice just to support Inafune, even if I end up getting a Vita 1-2 years from now. Would hope for God Eater 2 PSP and Vita (and Project Diva f!)to arrive as well and for PSO2 Vita to make it to the American PSN.
Speaking of which, I want PSO2 to be on 3DS and Wii U, too.
@Koto PSO2 on 3ds and wii U ? Why you already have MH Ultimate ....
Now let's hope that it can keep up.
This is good news. If Vita can finally get a foothold in Japan then we might be onto something. It'll at least mean Japanese publishers will be willing to release some games on the system. Hopefully those games will then make it west.
@ThatOneBlackGuy Mike Jones!
White Knight Chronicles would make a great addition to the Vita. If I remember right, it did fairly well on the PSP.
so if they do a price cut over here the same thing could happen, i hope so because that might give publishers more reason to support the system
Anyone play ninja gaiden 2?thats one hella masterpiece
@Gemuarto Yeah, but at the price of WiFi version they'd be foolish to pass up on that!
Good news. Now bring price drop to the rest of the world, and bring on the games. Done! Vita sales move to one of the top three spots for 3-4 months straight.
I don't think the price cut on the actually System is what causing this explosion in Sales, because let's be honors the issue with Vita ain't a price on the System (Only $40 more expensive than 3DS), The issue is price on Memory Card, because $89 for 32GB is to expensive.
Remember that JP have a Vita 3G + 32 GB memory card bundle and it only cost $20 more than a Vita Wifi system in US. (You only pay $50 more for 3G + 32 GB memory card)
Great news for Vita. Can't wait to see the official sales data!
@artemisthemp - I agree. The memory card fiasco has been very detrimental for Vita, IMO. Absolutely insane that Sony didn't go with something standard like SD Cards, and the decision has bit them on the ass.
When you're forced to pay $100 for 32g, then something's definitely wrong.
Yay! I seriously bet Valhalla Knights 3 will be a great game and help sales at least in Japan. People seem to not like that series, but it's so deserving of a good-graphics, up-to-date entry.
