How do you make a relatively dull Tuesday afternoon suddenly seem interesting? You announce that Batman: Arkham Origins is coming to the PlayStation 3 on 25th October, and that veteran developer Rocksteady Studios is not at the helm. It may seem like we’re telling Riddler-esque tales, but that’s exactly what Game Informer has confirmed.
The North American publication has an exclusive cover story on the prequel, which is being developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal. According to the magazine, the studio has been given full access to Rocksteady’s modified version of the Unreal Engine, allowing the release to capture the “look and feel of the Arkhamverse”.
The title takes place four years before the previous entries in the series, where a young Batman encounters numerous super villains for the first time. The assassin Deathstroke will be joining the party, and we daresay that the adventure may also plot the return of a certain clown character.
The game’s due out later this year on the PS3, with no mention of a PlayStation 4 version. It makes us wonder if Rocksteady’s been given the opportunity to work on a full next generation sequel, while this title fills the gap in between. Are you excited for more caped crusading? I still haven't played any games of the series.
I may start with this one if its really going to be a prequel.
@Epic Honestly, they're so cheap now, I'd recommend just playing Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
@get2sammyb
Right now I'm completly broke so its for now a no go for me.
Maybe I will try to buy them later or going to see if one of my friends can lend me at least one of the games.
They also say a vita spin off is in the works ......
Same month as BEYOND: Two Souls which I will be getting instead of Batman.
I played and enjoyed Arkham Asylum but haven't got around to getting Arkham City. I keep waiting for it to come to PS+ in the US like it did in EU.
Wouldn't Warner Bros. Games Montreal already have all the code from making the WiiU ed. of Arkham City? I think that's why they got the job in the first place.
I still have to play the other ones first! I do own them, and they are on the very short back-burner list. I tell you, I don't know how everyone keeps up!!! Takes me forever to get through a game sometimes - I'm still working on Darksiders, actually, which was offered some time ago on plus.
That said, I'm pretty sure this will be good, though maybe not quite as good since it's not Rocksteady at the helm...? We'll see.
@rjejr You'd have to imagine that they were already working on this when they started that port — but, yes, I'm sure that's part of the story.
@Epic If you lived near me I would lend you them as they're that good that everybody should play them.
Loved the Arkham games. judging by the comments here, I'm one of the few people who got to play both of them at launch. I was excited for this game until I heard that Rocksteady was not involved. Hopefully they are working on a PlayStation 4 game that is a sequel to Arkham City.
Little nervous about Rocksteady not running the show.
This is one of my all time favorite franchises bough and I will be first in line day one to get it.
I love the first two Arkham games but no Rocksteady has me a little concerned about this one. I'll buy it but probably not right away unless reviews are beyond stellar.
I'm planing to pre-order this tomorrow if it's available for that. I will get it for my Wii U though.
Deathstroke is going to be in it? I was already going to buy it, but now I'm pre-ordering.
