Beautiful wasteland

There’s a silver lining to the apocalypse, reckons The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog. In this fascinating behind-the-scenes, the studio explains how it’s consciously attempted to contrast the chaos and destruction of its impending survival horror title’s dilapidated world with an emphasis on foliage and plant life. “There’s something really pretty about nature reclaiming its domain once [humans] are gone,” says creative director Neil Druckmann.

The video also details the staggering amount of work that’s gone into getting the game’s lighting just right. For example, if you shine your flashlight at a coloured object, that shade will bounce around the world, creating a natural ambience. It’s all pretty mind-blowing stuff, but exactly what you’d expect from the studio behind the Uncharted series. Check out the trailer below, and let us know if you’re excited for the title in the comments section.
