While there’s plenty of promise in DriveClub’s social features, the PlayStation 4 launch title hasn’t quite lived up to the quality of its initial unveiling just yet. The demo on offer at last month’s E3 was just 35 per cent complete, leaving the visuals looking more Smart car than high-performance sports car. Still, developer Evolution Studios seems unfazed by the concerns – and it’s already promising an updated build at GamesCom.
Writing on NeoGAF, design director Paul Rustchynsky confirmed the good news, stating that a refreshed sampler will be available at next month’s convention in Cologne. The Runcorn-based developer does have a fondness for making massive improvements to its games towards the tail end of production, so don’t be surprised if the upcoming demo doesn’t blow its predecessor off the road. Let’s keep everything crossed, huh?

This GamesCom build will be worth a look. Like you said, Evolution tend to massively optimise thier games once the foundations are laid so I expect to see a marked improvement on what was pretty much an Alpha build at E3. Looking at the article's screenshot, the vista's on show remind me a lot of what Evolution used to do on Ps2 with the WRC series. I hope thats the case as Ive missed thier huge 5Km draw distance they had from WRC2 Extreme n onwards Are the vista's good?
@MadchesterManc In the Scotland track we got to play, yes. However, they need a lot, lot, lot more detail yet.
@get2sammyb, do you know if there will be any livestreams of anything at GamesCom? I know there's a lot of big stuff planned for announcement there, especially from Sony.
I know next to nothing about this game. Is it Sony's answer to Forza? I'm not really a fan of uber-realistic racing sims. I don't like when you have to spend days just figuring out just how to take a turn correctly, and you have to go through 25 races with a stock Ford Pinto before you can upgrade to a Chevette.
I just don't understand why they would show the product at its current state if it isn't up to snuff. All it does is stir up negativity and debate. I mean I was pretty stoked when it was first revealed but now I've seen it in action and now... Not so much!!!!
I mean it's like unveiling a brand new production car at an auto show with all the components, a frame but with no body and taking their word for it ' It's gonna look awesome'. Sorry guys I work in automotive, had to throw that in there.
@grenworthshero No. Forza is Microsoft's answer to Sony's Gran Turismo. This is more of a simcade racer.
I agree, more of a Ridge Racer kind of formula. I mean the social foundation sounds kinda cool and it sounds like that us gonna be the huge draw but I just hope they get out their paint brushes and really polish this thing. I'll download it from PSN and try it out, at least we have that option.
