Naughty Dog may have only just finished lapping up the plaudits for its latest release The Last of Us, but already the industry’s attention is turning to its next title. And given that it’s been almost two years since Nathan Drake’s last globe-trotting adventure, it's commonly accepted that the studio's next outing will be Uncharted 4. Nolan North, protagonist Nathan Drake's popular voice actor, should know a thing or two about the sequel then, right?
“I have no idea [about it],” he told Eurogamer.net. “I really don't. Naughty Dog is busy with The Last of Us, which is supposed to be fantastic, but they've been really, really busy with that. Maybe, once that's finished and the dust settles from all of that, maybe we'll know more about the possibility of [Uncharted 4]. I'm hoping, but I really don't know. The fact that I don't know is always disconcerting, but we'll see.”
Hmm. Why do we get the feeling that Mr. North is telling us Shambhala-sized porkies? We know that the Californian developer has grown since the release of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, forming two full teams. As such, there’s a second group within the company that’s been working on an unannounced project ever since it deployed Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in 2011. Would anyone like to bet against a fourth entry in the smash hit series?

As far as I could tell Uncharted 3's ending attempted to close the series. I would like to hope for another uncharted experience that is suitably larger and more enticing than 3 though.
@TromboneGamer I think it's going to be the PS4 tentpole for 2014 personally. The series still hasn't quite reached absolute blockbuster status, but it's right on the cusp. They're going to market the absolute heck out of this one. It's definitely happening.
Having and Uncharted game in the ps4 launch window would stellar. I imagine that games like uncharted 4 and FF15 will really show case what "next gen" is. While games like Titanfall and watch dogs look fantastic, I fear that they will be held back because of the current gen versions of those games.
Even if Naughty Dog wanted to move on I doubt Sony would let them. The franchise is too popular now so it'll definitely happen. I'm thinking Holiday 2014 at the latest.
Yeah, I think there is a legal agreement at play here. I would find it very hard to believe that he doesn't know that Naughty Dog has two teams. In way, he practically confirming it under the philosophy that he would have to know Naughty Dog has two teams. It sounds like he was making up the story on the spot.
I would be pretty surprised if there isn't another Uncharted game.
I feel The Last of Us easily topped the Uncharted series (which is saying a hell of alot) but I feel The Last of Us is/should be a stand alone game.
Uncharted is a series/story that would be alot easier too continue. I just don't see there not being another at some point.
Uncharted 4: Drake and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
@Gamer83 Given their track record, I would think Sony trusts them enough to let them do whatever they want.
On top of that, Steven ter Hyde(?), from Guerrilla, has stated that Sony isn't the kind of publisher who'll come in and make you change your project.
@TheRealBatman
I'm sure Sony trusts ND, if not, it probably wouldn't green light new franchises but economics have to come into play here too. And after GT, Uncharted and God of War are the PS brand's biggest names.
IF there's an Uncharted 4, I would imagine the best way for it to go would be a prequel... I can't really see how they could make a convincing new story after the ending of 3.
I'm a big Uncharted fan, but I'm not sure whether I want another game. I don't want the franchise to run down into the ground, but I would totally savour getting to play as Drake one more time.
@Gamer83 The same could be said about Sly, Jak and Ratchet. Yet when we came into the current gen, all of them we're succeeded by inFAMOUS, Uncharted and Resistance respectively.
If Uncharted carries over like inFAMOUS, then it's only because Naughty Dog wasn't finished with Nathan yet.
actually i look forward to anything from ND,uncharted 4,TLOU 2 or a new IP would be fine for me...but they need to come out soon,i m hungry for more ND games
i can see ND throwing another new IP in 2014 .. then a kicka#$ UC4 l8r
@GameOverRedd Sony already did a prequel with Golden abyss though.
@GameOverRedd
Pretty much my thoughts also. The series would have to have a recharge of some kind to work... which will be hard without it being a prequel, side story, or a twenty-something Drake. The series needs a break at the least. Naughty Dog could figure something out though if Sony insist on another UC.
@ShogunRok
Lawlz =p
I don't know, Naughty Dog has always been a company that releases a new franchise on every Gen. For PS1 it was crash, for PS2 it was Jak and Daxter, for PS3 it was Uncharted and finally The Last Of Us. Now with PS4 your saying they go back to Uncharted? I'm not saying it's not possible because it is, but it just goes against the formula they've been using.
@ajay708
The industry is different now and so is Naughty Dog itself having multiple teams. I'm positive we'll see another Uncharted, but I also think we'll get a new IP out of ND at some point as well.
Is it me or are some people so pessimistic?
I love uncharted I loved the last of us... But a part of me is just more indiana jones adventure like ^^ I want a 4th uncharted. However, a new naughty dog game is always good:! Chrash bandicoot, jack and dexter , uncharted and the last of us:D All were great
@Sanquine That's the beauty of when a developer has a good track record. You can always count on them to make great game experiences even if it's something new. As much as everyone would love another Uncharted, given their track record i don't think anyone would complain if they made something completely new.
Either new IP that isn't a cover shooter or Jak 4
Otherwise I'm only somewhat interested.
Useless and pointless article, you know he can't say anything about the game before it's been announced, find something to write that we don't already know
