If you absolutely must update your friends on your non-existent social life while you’re beavering away in Watch Dogs, platform holder Sony has confirmed that Party Chat will be available for free on the PlayStation 4. The snippet was confirmed as part of a PlayStation Access video, which also revealed the system’s gigantic friends count.
We already know that you’ll need a PlayStation Plus subscription to take advantage of multiplayer on the next generation console, but the Japanese giant’s being smart about its implementation. Unlike on the Xbox 360, you won’t need to stump up to access entertainment applications such as Netflix, free-to-play games, or the aforementioned Party Chat.
Now, if only we had something that we desperately needed to talk to people about. We hear that that new Piri-Piri flavour Pot Noodle’s sort of tasty. Anyone want to chat about that?

I hope party chat lives up to the hype! This has been years in the making... never heard the end of it.
It's pretty great of them to keep the same subscription on the next gen. Makes it even more worth the price of one game. And you don't wanna miss out on multiplayer especially if its seamless and fancy. I always wondered how chat with more than 2 people would work. Three-way-calls sucked
@ShogunRok Innit. I'm not even sure what the big deal is, to be honest. It's something I've never missed on PS3, despite the constant demand.
I may use it to just talk with some friends while playing but its not a system seller in my opinion.
@ShogunRok The only time I used it on 360 was on Fifa due to the in-game chat channel being dire lol I found it to be better on Ps3 without it. It makes communitys on games non-existant. Imagine playing a game like MAG, that requires tactical teamwork, yet most of your squad is unable to coordinate anything due to being in party chat talkin to people not even playing the same game. I hated party chat on 360. Its one of the most overrated features. I can see it being useful for PSQR events but other than that its a no go for me. Ive used it and found it worthless.
Its good to hear its free tho at least
Sony are doing this absolutely right, keeping things out of the paywall that should be. In my personal opinion, Microsoft have had this completely wrong all along, putting otherwise 'free' services behind a Live Gold membership.
@get2sammyb The Piri Piri Pot Noodle advert is pretty genius though.
@Snorky Haha!
