We were a little bit worried about DriveClub when we first got our hands on the racer earlier in the year. Little over a month ago, the game looked frighteningly unfinished, and – if we’re honest – a little bit bland. But developer Evolution Studios has a habit of making late sprints to the finish line, so it’s perhaps not especially surprising that the PlayStation 4 racer is starting to look, well, a little bit mind-blowing.
Like all of Sony’s first-party launch titles, the game has come on leaps and bounds since E3 2013, as evidenced by this direct-feed gameplay footage taken from the showfloor at GamesCom. If you can stop yourself from head-bobbing long enough, you should be able to appreciate the serious upgrades to the scenery, lighting, and general sense of speed.
One thing to remember is that the launch title uses a dynamic illumination system, which means that you’ll be able to play all of its tracks at various times of the day. We’re drooling at the prospect of racing through this dense forest location in the dark. Even more impressively, the Runcorn-based team’s still got at least two months left to add another layer of polish to the current build. We can't wait to see how it looks on release day.

Nom nom nom.
It's really surprising how far the launch games have come since E3. Even Knack looks much better.
@ShogunRok It really does - I'm amazed by how good Knack looks. I presume this is a consequence of working on "changing" hardware. Killzone looks absolutely gob-stopping, too.
In a way, I'm kinda grateful for the hokey E3 demos, because I'm getting an "OMG NEXT-GEN" reaction all over again.
Does this confirm that the PS4 only captures in 720p and not 1080p?
@sammy760 Nah, not necessarily. This is captured from a Facebook video, which is where Evolution uploaded the original file.
I know Drive Club is an early build, hopefully they can get it running at 60FPS.
Aw, sweet! The first time I played PS2 I thought GT3 had time changes like that. Glad to see it exists now
This is gonna be the first thing I play come NOV 15th
I HOPE these games are 1080p, having a brand new system on a 1080p TV that only supports 720p is such a let down. Not saying 720P is bad, but with a 55 inch 1080P 3DTV Sony TV at least give me Full HD so I can enjoy the TV to the fullest. SO excited!!!
This is such great news to hear! Can't wait to get this game in my hands
Well, now I'm actually lookng forward to the game for more than just the reason that a basic copy will be free for Plus members.
Do we know how much plus subscribers will pay to get the full game?
@AD-80 Sony have pretty much confirmed 1080p for its launch titles. With the Ps4's GPU having 32rops, 1080p is a given as it has more than enough of a fillrate, 25.6 Gigapixels/sec to be precise. To put that into pespective, the GPU in my PC is a Radeon 6670 that I only use for light gaming. It has a fillrate of roughly 7 Gigapixels/sec. With that I play Skyrim on Ultra with 2xAA @ 1600x900. Hell if I overclock the card (increases fillrate) I can hit playable 1080p. So as you've probably guessed yourself, the fillrate being more than 3x bigger on the Ps4 means 1080p is easily attainable.
Driveclub is looking far better now than at E3. The dynamic lighting system will create some breathtaking vista's I bet. Although they should ditch it n go pre-baked with lighting like Forza 5 so we can have 60FPS cuz ya know, thats all that matters lol Im joking Its impressive seeing Sony's launch games of late.
@MadchesterManc This is the sweetest news to my ears. feeling like a giddy little school girl right now
I'd actually like to know if there's split screen in this. I miss the good ol' PS2 times when local multiplayer was still implemented in games. At least in racing games. I mean what's a better type of game to play on the same couch than racers? Wroom wroom.
E: Have to say that this still looks incredibly good, though.
