One of the announcements that prompted the largest cheers during Sony’s big GamesCom press conference today centred around reduced PlayStation Vita memory cards – but they’re not actually getting that much cheaper.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, the platform holder confirmed that the 4GB card will cost you $14.99 (down from $19.99), while the 8GB card will retail for $19.99 (down from $29.99). Meanwhile, the 16GB card will set you back $39.99 (down from $59.99), while the 32GB card will sting you $79.99 (down from $99.99).
While the prices are definitely moving in the right direction, they are still prohibitively expensive compared to similarly-sized SD cards. Still, at least the console is now $50 cheaper, too. The reductions are set to go into effect later today in North America.

Shoud be way cheaper on black friday or cyber monday
@ SAMMY still pretty pricing indeed but it's a pill i can swallow.
BTW more trailers for vita..
All new:) Fez coming to all ps platforms:)
@Sanquine Cheers for the heads up!
@get2sammyb You're welcome. I want to do everything for my favorite gaming website
I might be up for getting the 8GB memory card now, the 16GB is still pretty pricey.
So much for "significant" price drops.
I may need another 32gb now... But it's pretty silly that it's more than 1/3 the cost of a whole new vita.
3x too expensive is still better than 4x too expensive Sales will make the half what they were.
$80 is still a freaking joke. Apparently Sony doesn't want me buying too many more downloadable games. I'm nearly out of space on my 16GB card but I refuse to buy another that size because switching them out, while a minor pain in the a$$, is still a pain the a$$ and I shouldn't have to drop the price of two games just to get a decent amount of save space. I don't know who came up with this pricing plan but that person has no clue.
Looking forward to seeing the UK pricing structure. Looks like the 16GB card is now well within reach and it may be time to replace my creaking 4GB card lol Considering the 32GB can be had for about £60 (cheapest Ive seen is £53) online it'll be interesting to see where the price drops too for that one
I wish they'd just make a model that could use both SD cards and their memory cards.
@Gamer83 dude, please go to a dedicated xbox site. For you're age i expected not a tantrum like these.
@Sanquine
Not this again. It's not a tantrum I'm stating an opinion, if it differs from yours, sorry but I'd expect at your age you'd be able to handle differing view points. By the way, I'm not the only one who thinks $80 for 32GB of memory in 2013 is idiotic, especially when you can get flash drives with more memory for much cheaper. And if you're pissed that I'm not exactly thrilled with what Sony has shown for PS4, well, it's my $400 that I'm spending. Maybe you're rich and that's like $1 for you, it's not for me, I need to think more carefully when making my decisions and I decided to bet on Sony, so sorry but if I'm not pleased with what I'm seeing, I will say so and I have a right to say so. And today, Sony disgusted me, all they seem to have for PS4 in terms of blockbuster titles is what was shown at the reveal in February and E3 other than that, it's just niche indie game after niche indie game. Those are nice but I don't buy consoles strictly for those experiences. The Tokyo Game Show better be a vast improvement on this.
$80 for 16GB is outlandish. ._.
I hope by the time I get around to purchasing a Vita the cards will be cheaper. That's just crazy.
@IAmNotWill thats for the 32g still pricey 64g for that price would be better
I just bought a new replacement Vita today for $199! So happy!
Those memory card prices are still crap, but at least their cheaper I might have to pick up a 16gb card for those prices.
@Gamer83 Sorry for the this again ^^
@Gamer83 I feel the same way about the PS4. I love the PS4 but i was like where are the blockbusters?
@IAmNotWill @IAmNotWill Seek in game shops... I got one for 50€
It's a start, but it's still not good enough. Not paying $80 for 32GBs when I can get regular 32s for $20-$25. Come now Sony, I'd even consider a dollar a gig.
@Sanquine
Not a big deal, I honestly wish I wasn't this negative but Sony's press conference was just despressing. The biggest 'shot' it fired was another cheap shot at MS' policy reversals. That stuff was funny when it mattered, it doesn't anymore and it's time Sony gets serious about getting some games on its upcoming console.
@Sanquine @Gamer83 I'm with Gamer83 on this one...and I don't perceive him as fanboyish. I think he made a valid statement that I happen to agree with...the prices for Vita memory cards are outrageously high. I plan to buy a Vita sometimes in the future and for me, the prices of the cards are one of the biggest "problems"...I would go for the 32 GB card and most probably cough up the money, but grudgingly so...I would/will definitely feel ripped of and I agree that for most informed gamers the ridiculous prices for save space is one of the reasons not to get a Vita.
£56-£59 on ebay posted.
32GB have been $80 ad Amazon.com for a long time.
Considering you can get any of those sizes in an SD card for 1/3 of the price I'd say they are still VERY expensive. Come on Sony, either drop the price or drop the proprietary cards...
