The PlayStation 4's launch price might seem steep to North American and European gamers, but it's nothing when compared to the value of the console in Argentina.
If you're based in the South American country then you'll be expected to hand over 6,500 Pesos for the console — that's around $1,200 / £760.
The price was revealed by a poster on NeoGAF, who commented that the amount is 25 percent more than his monthly earnings. Ouch.
Gaming site VG247 — which spotted the original post — explained that Argentina's economy is in deep trouble at present, with levels of inflation that are out of control.
You've clearly got to be very committed to be a gamer in that territory right now.

I live on DR so I expect the prices here to be a bit close to these.
That's why I will just import it or buy it when I'm visting the US.
Admit it Damo, you only posted this so you could use that caption.
Oh great, now Evita is stuck in my. Guess I deserved that.
@rjejr Actually it only came to me as I was about to finish the story! Bonus
@Savino Sorry to hear that ... It is outrages.. You guys
Guess I wont complain about our $615 dollars here, But then again ours has nothing to do with taxes just a greedy local distributor! (just fyi they are the distributors for x box as well) If I had known the local price i would have imported and had it here before the local launch! damn you for selling out amazon.
Yeah that's ass. Cause not only the crazy mark-up, but then very few other people are gonna be crazy enough to get one too. Status symbol...
@Savino I agree, but there's the middle class as me that will buy the console but will suffer with the price of PS4 so high in the beginning (I expect to be $650), don't forget a lot of people that play games in Brazil play few titles because the software for PS3 for example is $70 - $80.
Nice reference in the subtitle you got there!
We had similar feeling here when the PS3 launched for $1000 in Australia. Maybe not quite as bad as Argentina's plight, but in the ball park. The 500GB PS3 now sells for $369, so times have changed. Hopefully, the price in Argentina will drop in time as well. Feel for them.
Mexico suffers for the same thing, ultra high prices.
@Damo - That's why you're the man:
@Savino
Completely agree with you, as I live in Brazil too but my PSN account and my Nintendo Network account are from North America so I can pay games without feeling mugged...
However a prefer physical releases, so I have to wait a lot of time for a price drop or order internationally which takes a lot of time...
