Despite switching to a paid multiplayer model on the PlayStation 4, it’s pretty incredible how Sony has managed to keep any backlash to a minimum. PlayStation Plus is already such a stellar service that it feels like there’s been a shrug of the shoulders from the gaming community in general. It would be better if online play wasn’t locked behind a paywall, of course, but no one’s ever going to question the value of the platform holder’s premium service. And trailers such as the one embedded below serve as a solid reminder of why.

I'm waiting until I get my PS4, then I'll subscribe. There are way too many benefits for me to not have one.
Its a good service but sometimes it lets me down with the games offered on the USA.
@Epic - Yeah, waiting for the US version. As Reggie would say, i twill be "meh". Since this is now required for multiplayer on the PS4 I think the wide disparity between the EU and US will get even more attention. I never could figure out why the EU and US blogs each have links to each other prominently located top center. It's like Sony wants the abusive attention.
PlayStation and Empire of the Sun. Two of my favourite things.
@epic Yeah, PS Plus lets me down with the games they offer, too. I mean, who wants to play Hitman Absolution, Ratchet & Clank All4One, Sleeping Dogs, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, Deus X, Just Cause 2, Gravity Rush, Wipeout, Star Wars Pinball, XCom, Borderlands, Darksiders, Resident Evil 5 Gold, Demon's Souls, Uncharted for Vita, Dokuro, Disgaea 3 Absence of Detention, Retro City Rampage, Virtue's Last Reward, Sideway: New York, Quantum Conundrum, Rochard, Closure, Machinarium, Virtua Fighter 5, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, Outland, King of Fighters XIII, Warhammer 3000: Space Marine, Spec Ops: The Line, Bioshock 2, or inFamous 2?
Yeah, PS Plus has been a COMPLETE waste of my $50 each year. I mean, just think of how many new release games I can buy in the store for $50--like, umm, maybe one, but I'll make sure it's a damn good one, unlike all these crappy games.
Seriously, for $50 USD a year, what more would you need so that you feel like the PS PLUS service isn't just a "good service" but a great service? Do you feel you've gotten your money's worth? Please know I'm not trying to be a jerk--I'm just trying to better understand
@jgrangervikings
I totally agree, its an incredible deal for 50 bucks a year.
@jgrangervikings I said SOMETIMES let me down with the games offered on the US.
Lets compare the last two months:
We are going to get Resident Evil Chronicles collection, ICO and Galaga Legions when they are going to get Stealth Bastard, Assassin's Creed III and Jak and Daxter Collection.
Last month US was Hitman Absolution, Bit Trip Runner 2 and Pinball and EU were getting ICO & Shadow of the Colossus, Need for Speed Most Wanted and Mafia II.
Last year PS+ on the US has been great indeed but this year is showing a slow start in my opinion, that's all I wanted to say and its really sad when you compare both EU and US side by side.
PS: I've been playing all this PS+ games since the announcement of IGC and played most of the games you mentioned and please next time don't forget to mention Vanquish.
I let mine lapse last month... Just until PS4 comes out as I am sadly going to be selling my PS3 to help my wife feel better about me spending damn near $600 for a new system and games... But it is a phenomenal deal worth every bit of the $50.
As for PS+ being required to play online... No one should EVER complain about that with the benefits that come with it AND the fact that it is not required for anything else you do on your PS4. Plus it will help Sony cultivate the PSN and help it get better.
PS Plus is a great value and the service is great. The reason why there has been very little backlash is because most gamers understand the value of PS Plus and also realize that if you want all these extra services that will Sony is promising on the PS4 will come with a cost and people won't mind paying the extra cost as long there are improvements and a better experience.
I got plus when it started offering Vita games. I like it very much. I don't even have the time to play everything they offer. I would like them to include some more day one discounts.
What I would like to know is if I would be able to get PS4 games offered day one if I don't get the console soon. Now you can get PS3 and Vita games for future play even if you don't have one of them.
Woah... Uh, yeah, it's great if you can afford it. Duh, tho, right? It's to separate their market into subclasses based on spending probability. I have all the plus games from a year and a half back and barely play them, tho. It's pretty okay right this second, but ps4 will save us
we gotta pay for multiplayer for ps4? I did not know this, that sucks
Good thing PlayStation Plus is a great service, I've been thinking of renewing mine.
Still stand by the "free" games being more of a scam and the fact that I can build a PC for around $500 with mutliplatform multiplayer games that will run better. The exclusives can be great, but the online being behind a paywall (retail wise) just doesn't seem viable to me. $50 a year for PS+ $10 less than xbox live gold, but still feels more like a false benefit. I understand the "why not?" sentiment for those who'll be playing online on PS4 (due to the fact that you only have to pay once a year), but that doesn't mean it's right.
@jgrangervikings don't forget Blazblue. No complaints here.
" *A year is 365 days." Thanks Sony! I learnt something!
Anyone with half a brain a PS3 or Vita knows fully well what a ridiculous deal/service PS+ is let alone those that own both systems. It goes together with the systems like Bee's & Honey.
Sorry, Epic, I took out my frustrations on you when it really was meant toward the legions of whiners on the PS Blogcast site who seem to get off on being as crass and rude as possible when discussing the upcoming PS Plus games. Are there games I wish were giveaways on PS Plus? Sure. I'd love to get games like Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, Diablo III, Metal Gear Revengeance, and Black Ops II free on day 1 with PS Plus, but I'm also realistic. Some of the comments there just blow my mind.
You're right on Vanquish--GREAT game. Blazblue was a good one, too.
@jgrangervikings Jesus you went far to prove your sarcastic point.
