Weirdness: Saints Row IV Conveniently Cashes GATV Add-On Next Week

Considering that the Saints Row series started life as a cheap Grand Theft Auto knock-off, it’s amazing how much the franchises have diverged. While the previous instalment in Rockstar’s sandbox series adopted a more realistic guise, Volition Software’s own property has backflipped off the side of a cliff wearing a tutu. Still, given the origins of the Deep Silver-owned brand, it's hardly surprising that the company's decided to take a tongue-in-cheek swipe at the release of Grand Theft Auto V next week.

According to the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast, a new Saints Row IV add-on pack named GATV will be made available on Tuesday in North America – the same day as the aforementioned sequel’s big launch. A post on GameFAQs claims that this cleverly dubbed DLC will include Johnny Gat-style clothes, hair, and a knife-gun. It’ll be joined by a Wild West expansion, but additional details regarding that are scarce. We’ll be disappointed if it’s got nothing to do with the Will Smith hit of the same name.

I've already seen scathing comments about this across forums from GTAV fans, but I think what we have to remember is that it's likely Volition will also be enjoying Rockstar's latest come Tuesday...

This is just Saints Row being Saints Row it doesn't bother me at all. The main game had all kinds of tongue-in-cheek references of other games and movies. It's not meant to be taking serious in anyway whatsoever haha.

Never understood the pedestal they put Johnny Gat on - I find him to be the most generic, undeveloped character of the series :/

GATV=GTAV tuesday 17, said this weeks ago that this pack was getting release the day GTA5 is out. Can't wait for GTA5 though, hope SA crazy cheats are back.

Since the release of SRTT, the crying, b****ing and threating the company been going on and on all the way to the Gat is Back trailer for SR4. Volition had to bring him back if not, SR4 wouldn't had sold a million copies in one week since there were way too many Johnny Gat fanboys all over the internet. To be honest, I never understood the hype towards gat. He's not bad, but there are a lot of better characters in the SR universe.
