It may have been pushed out of the launch window and into the New Year, but Evolution Studios’ upcoming PlayStation 4 racer DriveClub is still worth getting excited about. In order to make up for the recent delay, the developer has shared a new gameplay clip from the latest build of the next generation exclusive – and it looks absolutely stunning.
At just over ten seconds long, there’s not a whole lot to sink your teeth into, but the improvements over previous videos are clear. For starters, there are now multiple cars on the track, with a heavy collision showcasing the title’s damage model. Other enhancements include overhauled motion blur and much better shadows. According to the studio, this is just the start, though.
Asked if the game would progress any further over the coming months, a community representative confirmed on Twitter that “you will see an improvement to the ambient lighting inside the car”, as well as tweaks to “the sun, the clouds, and the sky overall”. While it’s disappointing that the title’s been pushed back, we reckon that it will all work out for the best.

Was that a crack in the Window? Awesome
@Sanquine Yeah, it's awesome, isn't it? The sense of speed is fantastic.
Seriously more development time is always a good thing (except when it comes to Duke Nukem titles) but this video left me unimpressed. Maybe I got too much Forza in the last years.
@Scollurio
Whaat? Just stahp dude.
@Scollurio You crazy - the lighting's insane. Remember that it's all dynamic, unlike Forza. (Not that Forza looks bad in the slightest - it looks great, too!)
Quick note relating to previous posts of mine: I actually think delays are great if it means a better end product. I just think marketing this as launch was a bit off.
OT: I am really excited for this game. Not only because it visually looks stunning and highly immersive as a result but because the game features sound right up my ally
I ain't even mad.

Really starting to wonder if Evolution didn't have this done on time or if it's a scumbag marketing decision to get out of the GT 6 window. Regardless, Forza is going to be the better game.
RIP forza
Haven't tried Forza. As long as it's better than nfs the run its better in my book. That's my latest racing game (except nfs vita)
While I'm disappointed about the delay, I'm happy that Evolution isn't willing to put out a product they don't feel is complete.
DriveClub already looked better than Forza, but after this delay I fully expect it to blow Forza out of the water.
@divinelite
It should have no problem topping NFS The Run. That game was phoned in.
@Gamer83 I doubt it, though it's possible. They were targeting launch so I imagine they had to be pretty darn close to hitting it. The delay will just give them time to polish things up.
Maybe the delay will allow them to get up to a constant 60fps at launch.
CANT WAIT FOR DRIVE CLUB MOST ANTICIPATED RACING GAME LOL
@get2sammyb
Well, it's whatever at this point anyway. I think they missed the best opportunity to sell more copies and with more games in my favorite genres hitting around the same time I likely will avoid this. For racing fans I hope the extra time is worth it especially if NFS Rivals is subpar.
@Gamer83 Yeah, play those boring sequels of boring games.
Srsly 10 seconds lol? Nobody will even remember complaining about its delay once we play it. I wonder if blown-out windows create drag : )
Looking amazing now. Was initially disappointed over the delay but the wait seems to be worth it. I like the fact they are trying to do something different with a new IP. There are other next gen racers coming out that aren't as brave as this.
@get2sammyb Yeah you're right, it looks good, better than in earlier builds, and don't get me wrong, I lost interest in Forza long time ago for them going more and more casual, and here you have the thing, I enjoy racing cars in any variation but what I enjoy most is racing simulators, I enjoy things like tire wear, accurate rubber physics, bursting engines under load and having realistic pit stops and a fuel strategy for an endurance race. Clearly the big bunch of the racing games coming out in the next months is catering to another audience than me, so I may be pre-occupied, but for quick action and fun racing Drive Club looks A-OK indeed.
I have my eyes on GT6 (which I'd prefer on PS4, like everyone) and definitely Project Cars which really looks to become THE one racing game fitting all needs of different play styles!
@Gamer83. I will bet that they delayed it because of GT and forza. GT would destroy DC
I just don't know what happened to Sony with their exclusives this time round. I would have loved to have seen GT at launch!
@Sanquine
That's probably the case. I actually have no problem with the delay either, I don't like that they marketed it as a launch game then at the last minute say 'sorry.' They knew for a while it would be delayed so just announce it right away. The spotlight is even more on GT and Forza now with The Crew and Drive Club are out of the way. I'm most interested to see how NFS Rivals turns out though. I doubt it outsells those other two but it could perform well on PS4. I don't know much about Ghost studios, it's not going to be easy to replace Criterion but if it deliver a good game, it might be able to pull in some nice sales figures.
