Despite a cyclone of rumours to the contrary, Activision has labelled speculation suggesting that Sony has reacquired the Crash Bandicoot brand as unadulterated twinsanity. A teaser in a PlayStation 4 advertisement had hinted that the Japanese giant had bought back the platforming property, but the Call of Duty publisher has stated that that’s not the case.
“Activision owns Crash Bandicoot and we continue to explore ways in which we could bring the beloved series back to life,” a representative told Game Informer. Earlier in the week, the hero was blitzed from the organisation’s official website, adding even more fuel to the anecdotal inferno. Alas, judging by that statement, it looks like the PSone mascot is about to be put back in his cage. Boo.

Gah, what is the point in Activision owning this character when it's clearly never going to do anything with it? I really thought Sony might have purchased it back. This series is dead unless they do, in my opinion.
@get2sammyb Crash Bandicoot is a key IP for them even thought they might never use it, they are going to sell the IP for sure but they won't let it go for cheap for the huge influence it has in gaming history and fame, I just want that if someone in the ends get it don't let it end like Banjo Kazooie. :/
@get2sammyb Crash Of Bandicoot FPS Incoming?
@Epic Yeah, I can see why they'd want to hold onto it. I get that it has "value" even if they never use it. It just seems like such a waste, and it sucks for fans.
No no no wait Call Of Duty: Crash Of Bandicoot.
@Legendaryboss Bandicoot of Duty: Crash Ops Warped
@Legendaryboss @Cloud7794 Perfect.
@Cloud7794
This.
I love the Crash series, but that might be a spin-off () I can get behind
Activision: We don't want to kill Cash of Dummy by releasing a Crash Bandicoot game.
I don't understand why Crash was sold to Activision in the first place.
I don't get it. When there is a lot of demand for a popular game in a franchises, why aren't they releasing one or selling the rights away for someone else to release one? I know the gaming world is a lot of business, but it sucks to our favorite franchises stuck like this.
I always recite: "Sony Computer Entertainment America presents...
A Universal Interactive Studios production...
A game created and developed by Naughty Dog!..."
why don't other games have such emphatic introduction? The world is bare without Crash
@Epic There's still rumours that Nintendo are going to be buying Banjo-Kazooie. Hopefully they do so that series isn't dead.
@zeldagaymer93 The problem is that unless the name Mario is in the title platform games don't tend to sell anymore. The Sonic games are selling less and less (despite the last few being genuinely great), Rayman Origins was a freak occurence (the sequel hasn't done anywhere near as well, sadly), Spyro is now a tiny part of Skylanders, Jak and Daxter seem to be in videogame hell while Sly Cooper and the gang seem to keep forgetting they're in a platform game and try to put every single genre of game in their titles (needlessly). It's a shame as there's still nothing like an exceptional platform game and there really hasn't been anywhere near enough of them in the last ten years. Be nice if Treasure are working on one as they've made some good'uns but they seen to have disappeared off the face of the earth.
This is really unfortunate. any number of Sony's 1st party studios would've done an amazing job reinvigorating Crash. Activion's done absolutely nothing with the character. It's been two entire generations already....bring him home to Sony!!
This is bloody upsetting. Why hold on to the IP when the last game was a flop and isn't doing absolutely a damn thing with crash bandicoot? Either give it back to sony where he and spyro were originally born or don't bother making another crash game A$$tivision. They knew he and spyro are high demand which is why they refuse to let go of them. I was just about to congrats sony for getting crash back and was just gonna play one of the four crash games classics from ND to celebrate the return of the true playstation mascot, looks like that is not happening.
Disappointing to say the least. Eventhough Naughty Dog probably wouldn't be involved I'm sure one of Sony's other studios could've done an admirable job.
@Legendaryboss or Call of Duty: Wumpa Warfare
How unfortunate. They're just going to keep making money off of Children on Daycare (CoD) and not do squad with Crash. As much as it hurts to say this but I think Spyro may be a lost cause since he's in Skylanders.
@JaredJ Probably because Activision bought Universal, who had always owned Crash along with Spyro.
@get2sammyb Purrfect*
Now if you excuse me my rear-hind just fell off again, let me go put it back on.
