It’s a relief to be able to write about the PlayStation 4 from a global perspective at last. While the unfortunate folks in Japan and some smaller territories around the world are still waiting for greatness to arrive, there’s a sizeable chance that the system is now available in the region that you’re reading this from. That means that we can also poll you on your experiences so far, and really get a feel for your thoughts on the format’s future.
We published our hardware review yesterday, and concluded that Sony’s next generation system provides a solid foundation from which the platform holder can build. The console’s not perfect – there are still rampant organisation irritations and many features that haven’t been fully fleshed out yet – but it represents a step forward from the dark days of the PlayStation 3, when the device launched late, overpriced, and several steps behind the Xbox 360.
The Japanese giant deserves kudos for righting the wrongs that plagued its previous platform, and while the PS3 did eventually blossom into an exceptional system, we get the sense that the latest addition to its hardware family is going to achieve that status a lot sooner. Still, while we’ve enjoyed sharing our opinions on the device over the past few days, we really want to know what you think about it. And that’s why we’re providing you with a platform to share your thoughts.
We’ve quizzed you on the various aspects of the PS4 before, but now we’re eager to bring it all together. What’s your overall opinion of the hardware, and what do you think about its future prospects? How would you rate the DualShock 4 compared to previous controllers, and do its gimmicks have a place? What does Sony need to do to stay ahead in the battle against Microsoft and Nintendo, and do smartphones and tablets represent a threat?
We’ve included a complete survey in the space below, but we also want your written impressions in the comments. Are the unit’s specifications potent enough to keep pace with PCs, or do you think that the system will slip behind pretty soon? Will the exclusivity of Titanfall have a meaningful impact on the format moving forwards, or do you think that Sony’s exhaustive first-party network will give it the edge? Scratch your head, fill out our survey, and then dive into the comments section below armed with your thoughts.

Some questions, it was tough to choose. It's super weird how someone rated the commercial prospects as 'very poor.' It's certainly currently enjoying the largest launch month of any console ever.
@Visiblemode I suppose the counter argument is that once the launch hype has passed it could fall off the radar. I personally don't think that's going to happen - this year has proven the consoles are alive and well with the Xbox One, PS4, and GTA5.
I don't see Xbox one being the biggest threat to the system’s success, so far they've played their cards flawlessly.
The last time the Playstation was this exciting was when the original launched in the 90s
What? Who voted Wii U? XD I mean i love my Wii U but after seeing Mario just get 90.000 sales in Japan and still the Vita has more hardware sales you can not expect the Wii U as a threat... After seeing people go berserk at the Media markt in germany and some stores in France no one can stop this behemoth
I've been playing on my PS4 for around six hours i've only come off it now as i'm very tired, could not sleep last night i've been up from about 2-2:30. I've love the PS4 it's UI is very slick and fast, from setting it up to downloading the V1.51 patch and signing me in i've had no trouble at all. the DS4 is smart and once used to it it's a big step-up from the DS3, i know what you mean now by the twin sticks are tighter and L2/R2 feel a lot better. I downloaded Resogun which is an excellent game i'll be playing this alot, and started Killzone4 Wow it is stunning it really is. Even tho i've see clips off Youtube it cannot compare, it's unreal how sharp the picture is. I'll be downloading Warframe tomorrow and will probably try out the multiplayer to BF4, haven't touched AC4 because once i start it i want to play right through.
Well, we don't actually know that Uncharted 4 is coming next year. If Naughty Dog's usual release schedule is to be followed, it'll be 2015.
Everything working beautifully so far, and loving the DS4.
I do miss all of the "other" non gaming bits though, like TV streaming that the PS3 has. In Australia the PS4 has only 1 app (IGN). Still have my PS3, it just means that they will be side by side for some time to come. Need patience. The game sharing though is brilliant.
I picked inFAMOUS in the most anticipated games 2014 poll because at this point, we don't even know if Uncharted or The Order are coming out in 2014. The Order maybe since it's been getting hyped long before the system's release, but Uncharted's just been announced days ago.
@Sanquine: Don't forget those sales numbers don't include downloads, which have been picking up steam CRAZY fast lately regardless of Nintendo's archaic account system. I think the Wii U COULD be a bigger threat than the Xbone once Nintendo's software picks up and people realize just how many problems the Xbone really has...problems that time can't fix.
@RaymanFan2: Their usual schedule SHOULD be disrupted soon since they split into two development teams a while back. The new Uncharted should have been in development since shortly after U3 released, giving them PLENTY of time to get it out in 2014.
@Stuffgamer1 I hope so for Nintendo. This post had the sole purpose to use that gif. Hehe! I hope your right. I really want the Wii U to beat Xbone
Incase some of you are interested "Channel4 9pm Charlie Brookers How Video Games Changed The World", i love these sorts of things.
I really think the Steambox has potential to be a massive threat to Sony, Nintendo and MS.
Most wanted game is inFamous: Second Son but MLB 14 The Show, Destiny, The Order and Uncharted are definitely up there as well. I'd love to put DriveClub and Watch_Dogs on that list but the ball has been dropped big time regarding those two games. To be fair to Evolution, DriveClub may still be able to be saved. Watch_Dogs has no chance unless Ubi takes the hit, scraps the current build on all systems and starts over with a game strictly build for PS4, X1 and PC. Can always have another team pick up a Wii U port later down the road like what Capcom did with the original Dead Rising.
@RaymanFan2
ND's schedule prior to expanding the number of teams it has working on games. You could end up being right, but that'd be a big blow to Sony during holiday 2014 considering there's no doubt Halo 5 will be launched at that time and Nintendo always reaches into its vault of classic franchises for a holiday release.
inFAMOUS: Second Son ahead of Uncharted 4? I can't work that out.
What do you think is the biggest threat to the system’s success?
There is one answer missing. Sony itself.
