Now that Media Molecule’s adorable paper-based platformer Tearaway has been tossed onto store shelves, the release schedule for the PlayStation Vita is looking a little bleak. Fortunately, there are new titles on the horizon, including Japan Studio’s co-operative demon slayer Freedom Wars, which is due out at some point in 2014.
It can’t be far away either, as the title will be playable for the first time at Jump Festa in Japan this weekend. Despite the convention traditionally being geared towards manga fans, Sony clearly thought that the attractive anime art style would appeal to attendees. Regardless, seeing as it’s one of the biggest games in production for the platform, it makes sense to put it in people’s hands.
For those out of the loop, the release is set in the far-away future, in a world where spiralling population has prompted the Earth’s inhabitants to take refuge underground. Newborns are instantly awarded an enormous prison sentence, which they can reduce by relieving the planet of monsters named ‘Abductors’.
It’s an interesting premise, and one that appears to offer to an enjoyable multiplayer experience judging by the title’s debut gameplay trailer. Hopefully we’ll get a better look at the title courtesy of the abovementioned exhibition. Are you a slave to your excitement for this release? Throw away the key in the comments section below.

Interested to see how this turns out. It doesn't seem like my kind of game but aside from MLB The Show there's not a Vita game in the near future I'm really looking forward to and it is Japan Studio. Aside from Knack, JS can usually be counted on for something great.
Yeah there's no a huge quantity of exclusives coming up for the Vita, but the funny thing is I don't care, because there's one title coming that I would literally ditch any other game on any other format for: Gravity Rush 2. I don't think I'm anticipating any other game half as much. Not even MGS5 - and I'm a pretty big MGS fan!
This game is definitely on my list of most anticipated Vita games
I think this looks like it has great potential. Is it being westernised?
@Ginkgo All Japan Studio games get brought over, it makes sense since they're an internal studio.
@Gamer83 I think that Knack is good actually. Still need to check it out, though.
