Media Molecule’s papercraft platformer Tearaway hasn’t exactly got off to a stellar start in North America. Speculation seeping out of the most recent NPD report suggests that the PlayStation Vita exclusive sold just 14,000 units during its miserable first few weeks on the market, prompting us to ponder the impact that PlayStation Plus could be having on portable software sales.
Fortunately, platform holder Sony is looking to give the critically acclaimed excursion a shot in the crinkly arm, courtesy of a brand new promotion that it’s struck up with North American giant GameStop. Starting today until 21st December, you’ll be able to pick up the title for just $19.99 either online or at your nearest store. That’s essentially half-price.
We absolutely loved watching Iota and Atoi’s miniature adventure unfold, and ended up awarding the release a 9/10 in our review. As such, if you own a Vita and haven’t played this yet, then make sure that you don’t miss out on this deal. Have you added the delightful escapade to your basket yet? Rip up the rule book in the comments section below.

I was gonna buy this today anyway! This is awesome.
Great game which wasn't given a cat in hell's chance of selling well thanks to Sony's incompetence.
Yeah. It's a smart idea to release one of the best Vita games of the year right next to the launch of the PS4, right?. Er, not really.
Btw, PS+ isn't the reason why this game didn't selling well. It's because of PS4. GT 6 is also proof of that.
Do it people... I cant understand why somebody doesnt want this
Just got it. And Amazon seems to be having the sale too, although stock doesn't come until the 18th, apparently.
The few people who just bought this are gonna be mad.
@Jaz007 I bought tearaway and ys memories of celceta silver edition and I end up spending $100 plus tax but im not mad because I wanna help the vita to continue to get support and I only so far 27 games for the vita and if I had more money I would buy more.
@tonyp1987 hahaha. It's funny to hear someone say they ONLY bought 27 games.
@ztpayne7 well I love my vita to death. I sold my ps3 and games to get a vita. But im almost finish ys memories of celceta
Sony should have made this game for PS3 or PS4. The honest hard truth of the matter is nobody cares about the Vita unless you already own one and that's only a little over 2 million people. If people don't have a Vita by now then obviously there's little interest. The remote play feature sounds cool and all but to be honest I think most people are content with just playing games on their ipads when their laying down.
@Itachi
You're wrong.
Over 6 million worldwide own a PS Vita. That figure is rapidly getting to 7 million now as Vita sold over 100,000 last week.
Vgchartz adjusted sales figures say so. See for yourself.

Ipad? You can't play MGS V, Uncharted 4 and Infamous: Second Son on an Ipad bud. Lol.
@RisefromAshes The Vitas only real hope is the remote play. It is good to know that sales are starting to climb.
@Itachi Get of your high horse. That you don't own a vita doesnt mean we dont get a exclusive. This game is based on touch features ( Front and back touch) Gyroscoop and the vita front and back camera. This will never have the charm on the playstation 3 or 4.... You can really anger me with this sort of comments so pardon me if i overreacted ^^
Let's be honest, the Vita is a niche system in the West. Rarely anyone I talk to cares abut the Vita, in person or on forums. I Feel bad that MM's talents are being wasted on a system that sold only 70,000 units in November.
Killzone Mercenary, Soul Sacrifice, and now Tearaway have failed to catch on in the West. Meh.
@staticdash22 It's a niche system in the west but does that means we dont get any games because someone like you doesnt like the idea for people having fun on a good but not so well selling handheld? 15 people worked on it! So i dont think it's wasted potential. Maybe you have to keep your opinion to yourself because there are enough people who are interested on this website. People like you need to keep your mouth shut
Guuuuhhhh, if it was ANY other retailer I would by this no questions. But I am sick of being treated like crap by my local gamestop and have ultimately stop going. I really don't want to support a company that hires people to argue with their customers for no reason. There's one guy here who -TRIES- to get in a fight with me every time I walk in, I don't even talk to him, he butts in and says how we're all idiots, and yet he still SOMEHOW has a job.
@Sanquine lmao Vita defense force is out. Sure, you're getting vita games now, with sales looking worse than the Wii U. I give Sony till 2015 or 2016 before vita starts being phased out. Can't see them pouring more exclusives into a system that only 70k in a month. Just because you want, or think you deserve games doesn't render the business side of the game industry irrelevant. If they're not making a return on games like tearaway, there will be less and less of them.
Might as well release it on the ps3 now.
@Sanquine
The Vita is a great system and I don't agree with the argument that the system is useless or doesn't have a good library but it can't be argued that the machine is an incredibly niche product. That has nothing to do with somebody being on a high horse, it's the cold hard facts. It's been this way since the system has been out and Sony missed its opportunity to turn the situation around. If it ever reaches a 20 mil install base that will be a huge 'win' considering where the sales are at this point.
@staticdash22
I'm sure Sony will have MM on the PS4 from this point forward, it only makes sense. From recent industry rumblings there's also a strong possibility Sony Bend might be moved back to the home console market. I need to see confirmation of that first but if it happens, that's a wrap for Vita no question about it.
@staticdash22 Vita sold over 100k on the week of black friday alone. So I doubt that it sold only 70k in that month.
@DaProphecy726 The NPD numbers were released, it sold just north of 70K
@staticdash22 I think those numbers only cover North America. It sold more worldwide.
@Sanquine I knew my comments would fire somebody up but that's just my opinion and my intent wasn't to anger anyone. Only that I feel this would have been a great game to have on console and it would have seen more widespread success. Like it or not the Vita is struggling and that's a known fact. I'm not picking on it, but it is the truth and even Sony acknowledges that.
Your wrong about not having the same charm on PS4. Infact i think this would've been the perfect type of game to showcase the DS4's new touch screen. Maybe even implement the PS Eye for added interactivity. I guess my problem has more to do with Media Molecule being more focused on Sony's portable than the consoles. They make some amazing games but only a small percentage of people get to experience it because not everyone has or wants a Vita.
I know you may disagree because you love your Vita, but you have to see at least some reasoning in my argument. Make no mistake about it, I am a PlayStation fan and only want to see them succeed, but personally I feel like the Vita is slowing them down. Hopefully the Vita proves me wrong.
Everybody needs to go and buy this game. It deserves all the support it gets.
The low sales are very depressing and probably means we won't ever get a sequel which is a massive shame seeing as how good the game is
Awesome, thanks for the heads up! Picked this up yesterday & now it's going under the tree 'til Christmas!
