That standard 500GB PlayStation 4 hard drive isn't going to last much longer with huge game installs and updates as big as this one. Weighing in at 2.3GB, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's latest patch is a beast, but thankfully it isn't a big load of nothing.
The download fixes numerous issues - some of which have been plaguing the seafaring release since its launch. For starters, having over 100 PSN friends no longer prevents players from signing into Ubisoft's uPlay service, so feel free to grab all of those virtual rewards that you've been missing. On top of that, combat has been balanced so that double attacks are more common, meaning that you'll get to see Edward perform his most complex kills much more often. As for the multiplayer side of things, you can peruse all of the alterations through here.
Along with the PS4's recent firmware update, there's plenty of reason to make use of your system's standby mode so that these changes don't cut into your gaming. Are large patches like this one painting a bleak picture of the future, or is there still plenty of space to spare on your machine? Keep us up to date in the comments section below.

I still have plenty of room on my PS4 and I am using the standard HD that came with the PS4. Of course I only been download indie games from PSN like Contrast and Don't Starve. Other then that I just have Injustice that I downloaded. I plan on buying the big name games on disc.
If the Xbox One is anything to go by, then people fearing that their hard drive may fill quickly from patching may be premature. From what I've gathered so far the patches overwrite data that's been installed so the file size barely grows. Dead Rising 3 for example recently had a 13GB patch yet that only added about 2GB to the overall file size for the game.
I am worried abit. After this year im pretty sure I will need to get a larger hdd especially once Second Son is out and ill up my ps4 with gameplay vids of my wife playing it. I really wish PS4 had shipped with a terabyte.
@3Above That would have driven the price up.
I only ever plan on having half a dozen psn games and full games on it at any one time. I can see plenty of people having issues but I'll be making sure its managed properly. I don't really need 20 games on the go. As for black flag. I have been enjoying my first foray into the franchise but yes the combat swordsmanship is a little straight forward.
@BornOfEvil especially with Sony's warped idea of reasonable price for memory. Don't get me started on the vita ha ha
@BornOfEvil Yeah it probably would have. And Ps4's price is a major advantage right now. And as @ryohazuki said Sony would have over chsrged for that extra 490gbs. Im still gonna need it though....
I feel like people aren't differentiating between digital and disc install sizes in general discussions. I've bought my 4 ps4 games on disc and my free space number hasn't changed from the first bootup. Based on that, I feel pretty comfy with ~450 gb lasting at least several years if I only dl PSN titles and get AAAs on disc. But if I needed over 500gb, then even 1tb wouldn't help for long
@RyoHazuki
Seriously, $80 for 32GB? And that's a $20 improvement over the initial $100. There are times Sony gets it right and other times it is utterly clueless in regards to pricing.
a patch over 2 gb for some smaller tweaks is ridiculous. There's probably some added content for future dlc, which I don't want Patches like this make me sick considering I'm moving to a place with little internet in a few months. Necessary patches, sure, I can maybe download if they're way smaller than a gb.
@MadchesterManc - I think in this case the space taken up on the HD was about 2Gb from what I could tell as mine is showing 25Gb from about 23Gb or something...
Either way, the day I bought my PS4 I added a 1TB SSHD. Currently I only have a few indie's, AC4 & Killzone installed and have just under 800Gb. I'm thinking that should last me many years if not the life of my PS4. (Hopefully!)
Now I'm just waiting on my 2000 mAh battery to arrive from China for my DS4 and I'm all set up. Should give me 14+ hours between charges
maybe sony should add support for external HDD's like the Wii U has then you don't need to worry about space or changing the HDD if your not comfortable doing that kind of thing
plus if Nintendo could do it and make it work on the Wii U then so can Sony on the PS4 & MS on the XB1 for that matter
They really should have fixed the issue with 100 friends earlier like December, instead of delaying to February.
@FullbringIchigo - external HD support would be good however Sony have made changing the existing drive really, really, really easy...

@Dodoo true but not everyone wants to or can do it (I can but don't need to yet) and having another option can't be bad
besides it also means sony could make and sell thier own hdd's
@RyoHazuki @3Above I doubt Sony would have gone with a proprietary HDD, otherwise they likely would have done that with the PS3.
i have assassin's creed 4 black flag on ps4 and ps3 i love the combat stealth the story the ship combat and exploring it is my 3rd favorite assassin's creed game ever and it is my top 10 favorite games ever
@3Above good for u lol
@Tasuki have fun
