With the PlayStation 4 now mere days away in Japan, Sony is attempting to drum up hype with a slew of trailers on its YouTube channel. And with Final Fantasy XV being the system’s most hotly anticipated title by far, it stands to reason that it’s uploaded a brand new clip taken from the upcoming role-playing game.
When we say ‘new’, what we really mean is ‘mostly old’, but we reckon that the video is worth watching all the same. It’s all too easy to tease publisher Square Enix over the former PlayStation 3 title’s ridiculous development schedule, but we'd still argue that this is one of the best looking titles in production for the Japanese giant’s super machine. Just look at that massive eel thing.

Im likeing the look of this so far
@Volmun Yeah, I'm not the biggest Final Fantasy fan to be brutally honest, but this is easily one of my most anticipated games. The art direction is brilliant IMO.
I can't not wait, it looks even better than before (not talking about graphics). This is gonna be so good. Day for sure.
I've been waiting for this game for years (HUGE Final Fantasy fan here) and it does look fantastic but then again FF games always do
@get2sammyb yeah same here last FF game i got was 11 (played it for about a month then that was it lol) and a beta of 14 the recent FF games really have bot intrested me in the slightest but this one really got my atention (probably as it showed a huge boss lol) still id like to see some actual gameplay.
I have to admit, despite all of the hassle I give Square Enix for how long the game has been in development, every time I see footage I get a shiver up my spine. It could be something amazingly special - it HAS to be something amazingly special.
Not a big fan of FF prefer Kingdom Of Hearts, but it looks amazing. Depending on the answer I would get the game, is this FF game using the same combat system as other FF games because it doesn't look that way? I'm sure I read something about them changing it and the reason why thay decided that, but that was a bit ago so I might be mixing up with something else.
"Giant Eel Thing" is Leviathan, a summon that's in quite a few of the games.
The thing is, seeing Leviathan there really makes me excited for the use of summons in XV. Will they be obtained in fights like that and used at all? Will you be able to summon them to fight for you as a legitimate tactic (unlike in XII and XIII, where summons were largely useless, especially late-game)?
A large part of me hopes they won't be playable though. That they'll just be boss fights that are extremely huge and epic, and will basically wreak havoc like Final Fantasy lore says they can. I'm conflicted here.
@banacheck Generally, FF games tend to have varying battle systems - but if you mean that they're all sort-of-turn-based then no, this one appears to be mostly free action. It might be the biggest departure that we've seen in the series so far.
@banacheck it's more like the Kingdom Hearts system than the Final Fantasy system but some of the FF is still in there
@Cloud7794 I would love it if they were huge epic bosses
Thanks for the rely guys, yes it was like a sort-of-turn-based system. I just couldn't get into it on FF games so I just didn't bother playing them, but with them changing it to more like KH I'll definitely looking out for it. To me it looks better than other FF games I've seen, it does look really good.
Lookin good! As much as people give Square Enix crap, there's quite a few games I buy with their logo on the case. They've been putting a TON of stock into FF lately, what with 13, the X/X-2 remakes and of course, FF15. Not to mention Bravely Default, which is, for all intents and purposes, rebranded old school FF. But you know what, I'm ok with that.
I said it once and I'll say it again, between Final Fantasy XV and Xenoblade 2 (or whatever they end up naming it), this is going to be one memorable generation of consoles.
Surprise surprise, it looks like they may actually have made something I could be interested in. When n where?
@Cloud7794 seems like they're trying to remind us of 8's gameplay, so hopefully the summons will be done more classically too. I still have to play so many FFs lol
Amazing. I want this but no hopes up until a release date.
@JaxonH
I like SE's Western published games, but I miss the old creativity of the Japanese teams. When Square and Enix were two separate entities, JRPGs were at their peak, you'd have thought when the companies merged that it could be a good thing but it seems like since then it's been all down hill in terms of quality for sure but it also doesn't seem like it pumps out that many new or creative games like the two did before the merge.
@Cloud7794 Hah, thanks for the correction. I prefer 'giant eel thing'.
@get2sammyb Fair enough. Then when I play through this and upload video/pictures I'll be sure to include the 'giant eel thing' tag.
@Charlesnarles @FullbringIchigo That's why I'm conflicted. On the one hand the older FF's had glorious summons, on the other they could make them so much more awesome and overpowered as bosses.
First FF game I have seen that interests me.
Gonna agree w/ everyone here. I've pretty much written off FF since X-2 but this looks good. It looks like Dante crashed Advent Children.
Who knows, maybe they've actually made a good game. I mean they are way overdue.
Not interested. FFXIII looked great but was trash to me.
i need a limited edition ps4 for this game...would buy it day one
Ready for this fully and sadly X just going to have to wait because again I hate the combat system direction they taking with trying to develop a another Xenoblade and the graphics needs to be more vibrant.
@Cloud7794 I think it would be a good change if the bad guys had them for a change, spice it up a little
