After a brief hiatus from PlayStation formats following an arguably ill-fated exclusivity window on Nintendo platforms, Sonic the Hedgehog looks set to sprint onto a PlayStation 4 near you in 2015. A sign supposedly on display at last week’s Nuremberg Toy Fair outlines a roadmap for SEGA’s speediest series, and suggests that an unannounced title is in the works for Sony’s next generation machine.
Interestingly, the placard also hints that the brand will receive its first ever CG animated film soon, which is reportedly being produced by Sony Pictures. Late last year, Kotaku spotted that the division had registered several web domains hinting at some kind of cinematic adaptation of the blue blur. Assuming that it’s real, it stands to reason that Sony Pictures Animation – the team behind Open Season and The Smurfs – would be the ones working on it.
Are you eager to get your fix of pacey platforming action, or do you think that the high-speed hedgehog has run out of gas? Stretch your legs in the comments section below.

YAY! I love Sonic games
when will Sega bring its "streets of rage" series back?
Sadly it'll not be like the excellent Lost World game (only Generations comes close in the last ten years) seeing as Nintendo helped in the development so heavily. Still I'd be first in the cue if it's more of Generations-style gaming, love me some Sonic n_n
Also, the Sonic games did very well on Wii U/3DS, considering. Sonic sells better on Nintendo machines so don't be surprised to see the Wii U being the lead format, no matter now badly it's doing.
Wow Sonic looks cool in that pic.
CAN NOT WAIT!! Lost World was decent but not as great as a game as Generations!! Hopefully Sega will take cues from Sonic Generations seeing as how successful it was that even IGN gave it a very good score (I think it was 8.9 if remember correctly).
I remember when Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) came to be for 360/PS3, despite how bad of a game it was, i loved the graphics (and the soundtrack) can't wait to be blown away again with PS4 graphics.
Please tell that we will finaly get Sonic Adcenture 3.
I've been waiting after beating the both the Original and Sonic Adventure 2.
I've tried all the Sonic games released after those except for Sonic Lost World and Sonic '06.
Let the Sonic cycle begin again. I still say there's a good game left in Sonic. It's good that they keep trying different things, as it's insane to keep doing the same thing and expect different results... I just hope with all the misfires hat have happened over the years they can nail it this generation. Hell, thanks to the good folks at Sumo Digital they pretty much nailed the kart genre in just two games!
Ps: Generations is a game I keep hoping will show up on Plus one day. I liked the demo but I'm just too cheap to shell out for a copy. Shame on me.
@rastamadeus Wasn't Sonic: Lost World supposed to be pretty meh? http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii-u/sonic-lost-world
It couldn't be nearly as bad as Lost World or that Black Knight one. I'd really enjoy a Sonic movie as long as Shadow had a lot of screen time.
Since we're talking about Hedgehogs, Atlus should revisit the Shadow the Hedgehog IP. The first one was decent, but I'd love to see Atlus reboot it.
Only Nintendo fans like Lost World because it had a Mario theme, it looked awful to me.
@get2sammyb Depends on what you want from a Sonic game. Lost World felt to me like how the series should have progressed from Sonic 3 and Knuckles, like the missing link between that game and Sonic Adventure 2. Was better paced, thought out and designed than any Sonic game in years. Wasn't perfect by any means but is the first step into making Sonic actually consistently good again. It's either that or return to the "look at me, woooo, here's something quirky which is actually crap" Sonic.
@banacheck "Looked"? So you haven't played it? Yet you have an opinion on how good it was or wasn't and can say that about it? Right...
@banacheck
I don't think Nintendo fans necessarily liked it. It was the Sonic fans who liked it, many of which happen to be Nintendo fans. I'm a Sonic fan, and a Nintendo fan, and I bought Lost World on Wii U and 3DS. It was mediocre. I mean, just because something has a Nintendo theme doesn't make me fall head over heels for it... but, it is what it is. I mean, it was still a DECENT game, problem is there are tons of decent games. It's the exceptional ones I'm interested in.
On the other hand, Sonic Racing Transformed is fantastic, so I'd like to see another one of those soon...
Sonic is hit and miss, but I'm not against Sega still trying to get it right. Every now and then, they spit out a good Sonic game so hey, I'll be here waiting for when they do...
Wrong. There's still one more Ninty-exclusive Sonic coming...
There will be a Sonic movie?!? (≧∇≦)
~But please, for the love of everything, don't let it be live action.
@rijahs oh my yes please. Still have this on my mega drive. Simply awesome
I've not enjoyed a sonic game since the mega drive really. I wouldn't ever buy it on my console but I might buy it on the vita. Sega are pretty clueless these days so it could go either way. Crash n burn is the likely outcome on ps4 xb1.
@BornOfEvil
Did you just imply that the complete garbage known as "Shadow the Hedgehog" is decent? Even Lost World is a better game than that.
@slintK Yes, Shadow the Hedgehog was decent. It had its share of problems, but it was still better than Lost World.
Everything about that game mimic Mario, and I seen enough gameplay to know that game wasn't for me. But as I said before it looked awful,
If it's anything like Generations I'll get it. If not, pass.
@banacheck Killzone 3 looked awful to me but I tried it. And guess what? If was awful! Sly Cooper looked awful to me but I tired it - and liked it (the first mainly, two and four are decent while three is garbage). My point is you can't judge something unless you try it. Last Of Us looked amazing but I found it to be one of the most boring experiences of my entire life. Oh, and all platform games in the last twenty-five years have mimicked Mario. Lost World was one of the few who did it successfully while making it feel original.
@RaymanFan2 Two Lost World games and the Winter Olympics makes three. I doubt Sega meant to stop there and I'm sure this forthcoming game was originally Wii U-only but Sega need the pennies.
As long they do away with the stupid aliens and the awful music. Didn't like Colors much and Sonic Lost World was decent.
@BornOfEvil
**** taste as I'd expect from someone with a God of Mediocre avatar.
I would love to see a Sonic game on PS4! Just make it more like Generations than Lost Worlds, ok SEGA?
I just hope its like Adventure and Generations
I mean, lost world was ok but not what I really expected
Let's just hope that if this is true that it will actually be a good Sonic game. I miss those. :/
