The fine folks at SCEE appear to have isolated their mole, as the next batch of PlayStation Plus content has remained under wraps for the first time this year. That means that we’re awaiting information from the official channels, and European PlayStation Blog manager Fred Dutton has revealed that details are forthcoming later this week.
In the past, the content lineups have been announced way in advance, but the abovementioned scribe admitted that that won’t be the case moving forwards. “In the interest of full disclosure, for the foreseeable future, you can expect PlayStation Plus games to be announced 5-7 days before they go live,” he explained. “Sorry to keep you folks waiting.”
Two titles that won’t be added to the Instant Game Collection – in Europe, at least – are Payday 2 and Injustice: Gods Among Us. Dutton also ruled out Secret Ponchos as the PlayStation 4 game, which was previously teased as one of the platform’s freebies way back at E3. For PS4, a full AAA game like PS3 and Vita have would be great. But eh, I'll take any free game regardless. So far we've been treated well, save for Contrast which was great in concept but terrible in execution!
Decent selection this month please. Not downloaded a single thing this year I've actually wanted (bar the PS4 games just so I have something on it).
@rastamadeus Oh, you! There have been good games on all of the systems this year!
@KillTheG1mp
I swear, we've been spoiled by Sony. Getting free games is no longer enough for us. But now we are asking for AAA games for free. We're becoming ungrateful brats.
My library is soo backed up that I'm trying to play multiple games to catch up.
Don't Starve, Outlast, and Dead Nation weren't really my kind of thing. All three of those games were concerned with survival in one way or another. I'd like to see something more colourful or cheerful this month.
I have too much free stuff, I'm drowning in PSN backlog.
PS4 will undoubtedly be an indie unless they furnish us with Knack off. PS3 don't really care unless maybe its Catherine or Batman Arkham City. Vita I wouldn't mind anything as long as its better than last months tripe.
Is it to early to hope for Knack?
@gr8apeb8 Not with its success in Japan
Yes its too early.
I'm never going to catch up as it is, but I'm still expecting PSASBR one of these days. and I missed KoA:R last time (though admittedly I hate when they offer the same game twice so I'm stuck between a rock and being a hypocrite on that one).
I think Guacamele has been on sale recently so that's due to go free soon, though maybe I'm confused and it was already free in the EU so I'm waiting for it to be free in the US? Really wish they would just make US and EU the same.
I just don't want another puzzle game in the US...
Like a fool I gave my ps3 away waiting for ps4 and when I got it it was amazed then went a got a years play plus , disappointment is not the word for it not one thing is there to down load that's good talk about being ripped off had to look again to make sure I did not buy an xbox give us some good games please or it will be back to buying a ps3
// Boring rant
Problem with PS Plus, apart from the discounts for indie games (that in no way will add up to $50 a year, for me), I already have all the games I want that they put up. That, and the horrible cost for the Vita's memory cards and my love of physical media, PS Plus is a tempting but necessary thing, for me, at best. I am one to buy the games I really want as they release or shortly after. I also want to avoid having all digital content. If you keep everything on your PC, as opposed to buying more memory cards (I already have a near filled 32 GB and an older now-empty 16 GB and I own one (non-PSN) game digital (Project Diva). PSP and PSone games are quite big and filled up my cards alone. I couldn't imagine owning 100GB+ of rentals just to have to move them around all the time. It is enough of a nuisance to switch games by PC. Also, I hate not owning things, and PS Plus is only a rental service. Technically, Steam and PSN are only license subscriptions, in the end. None of it is ideal and nothing replaces owning a case and cart.
// end Boring rant
@Kayoss its getting to absurd levels. Its not enough that we are being given games the day they release (seriously, how cool is that?) but we need AAA games too? The system has only been out for a few months, we don't have the AAA backlog that the PS3 has to pull from.
Come onnnnn Mercenary Kings!
I was almost certain Payday 2 would be in there this month - not that I'm disappointed. I don't think it would be my cup of tea. I'm quite excited now as the announcement will be a surprise. Driveclub maybe?
In general, the games tend to be whatever I bought a while back and have just gotten round to playing. So by sod's law I'm fully expecting this month's reveal to be Ni No Kuni. But I'm hoping against hope that it will be Dark Souls.
@PixelatedPixie YES! Tired of the horror and death themed PS4 offerings.
As long as it's not Towerfall or Steamworld dig for the PS4 I will be happy. I bought those this weekend. Towerfall is great
@baconcow to be fair you are still only licencing the software on the physical disc, but that's mostly just semantics.
I fully agree about physical media (and won't buy anything digitally for over $15 and even then if I can get it physically, even for twice the price, I'm gonna do that) but for me the freebies on PS+ are the only reason I subscribe. I have gotten quite a bit of enjoyment out of the PS4 freebies, not to mention the huge catalog of amazing PS3 releases that I will never have the time to finish. I enjoy it so much that I have reduced the amount of games I buy by over 75%.
Basement Crawl muhahaha
@thedevilsjester agreed, having all three systems makes it a bargain. I've built up a giant back log, I'd say only a third or even less are PS plus offering that I'm not interested in, I've only been onboard since October but with a couple of months its pretty much paid for itself.
@Reverandjames if they do AAA I hope its not a bro-shooter like CoD or Battlefield, or a game I already have like AC. I am hoping for games that I have been on the fence about or that looked good but not worth buying. (For example Thief and Tombraider PS4) but these are likely too new right now.
I really hope its not a FPS game, but I realize that you can't please everyone, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if they gave away a game I don't want.
I don't understand you guys requesting AAA games for PS4 as i thought the AAA games have to be at least a year old to appear on Plus.
@get2sammyb There have been a couple but just some very odd choices (Tomb Raider the week after it came out on PS4? A port of a once-free PS3 game?) and the continued messing about of PS+ is beyond a joke. But I meant more there's been nothing I've wanted or haven't already got myself so hoping for a decent selection, and not just another sodding FPS.
It's about time we go EDF and dragons crown for vita! or that chicken indi game.
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is coming to Vita's IGC in America so can see it coming over here. Another promise - no PSP games in the Vita IGC, ever - broken (again).
@thedevilsjester Yeah, I get the licensing thing. But, I was meaning it in the sense that, my physical game will still work in 100 years, as long as my system does. Another thing about digital that I don't like is the lack of being able to share the game with my gf. I play Tearaway and then give her it to play, also. Makes me cheap, I guess, but then again I buy tons of games so I don't see the issue. I will likely get PS+ if/when I buy a PS4, as it will likely be required to play online (no?). Looking forward to Destiny.
@stubiedoo Metro: Last Light came out in may 2013. So less than a year... just saying!
The PS4 has almost been out for 6 months now. So it could be possible but highly improbable that it would be a AAA title in the next few months. My money would be on Rayman Legends thought. It's about 30$ on PSN and 40$ in stores and the game has been out on other platforms since august 2013 so.
@baconcow its only required for games that you buy once and play indefinitely online. Subscription based games or free to play games do not require plus.
While I fully agree with your digital stance (if we went all digital I would simply stop playing games) its a different story when its practically free. The price of a cheese burger per month for a decent selection of free games is too good to pass up. And for many people it's an added bonus because they are paying for PS+ for online access anyway.
So let me see if, I understood this correct.
We are getting Injustice: Gods Among Us for PS3?
@KillTheG1mp First PS4 AA PS+ game will be Knack. It's the weakest of all the Sony games released so far but will get the headlines for being a "major" inclusion as it's a first party title. Don't expect it until E3 at the earliest or - more likely - autumn.
Shame about no Secret Ponchos. That looked rather good. I hope we get something decent on PS4 this month. We haven't since Don't Starve.
BF4 is coming for PS3 and PS4 as EA feel a need to recoup the loyalty due to the damaged system mechanics and pretty sure seen the placeholders for it free on PS+ the other night accidentally.
To be honest i'm happy with PS4 game at this point i have played to death all the campaign modes on my AAA titles, not bought any PSN games yet as i'm expecting quite afew of them to be put on PS+ this year.
Hoping mercenary kings ends up being the ps4 game. I plan on getting it regardless but would be awesome to save a few bucks.
It's either games that I already have or games that I don't like.
@Big-Boss wasn't it included with every Japanese ps4?
@jman0625 IT WAS A JOKE GODDAMN IT!
